point of impact

Hey all, if I lowered my scope approximately .125", would my POI rise 1" at 100 yds? Thanks, SPM

SPM, what do you mean by lowered? Just getting a lower ring height? If you are, then no. All you're doing is changing the point at which the bullet intersects the line of sight by 1/8". OTOH, you'll probably never know 'cause the odds of swapping rings and getting back to the same point of aim is pretty slim.

Well went to the range yesterday and I was way off, the windage was correct but the elevation was low 6". Yes rstreich, I just went from high rings to mediums,.150" different). Thanks, SPM

5PM,

I'm not surprised you're off by 6". A tiny difference in ring height difference could easily do that. Let's see how well I can explain this. Think of your scope and rings as sort of a kid's "see saw". Your back ring is 6" in back of the front ring. The front ring is 100 yards or 300 feet or 600 six inch rulers from the target. One side of the see saw is 600 times longer than the other. So if you lifted the short side one inch, the long side would go down 600 inches. That means if your 6 inches low at the target, the back ring is 6.00 inches divided by 600,=0.01) inches high. Or the the front ring is low or both rings are slightly off, like 0.005 high in front and 0.005" low in back). Five thousandths of an inch is is pretty small, regular printer paper is about 0.003" thick.
I hope this helps, Hanic
