Pockets in recoil lug

Went with this stuff, with some kiwi q tipped in the pocket and I’ll tape over it when it’s hard. I imagine it’ll pop out when done, if not oh well.

Probably over thinking it, but my clay seemed pretty soft when it was in the pocket and the tape didn’t have much to stick to.

Good point by @SBS on melting the wax, thanks, it’s probably not thick enough mud, but you never know!

Also, I figure the nuclear option isnt too bad, just remove the barrel and a long end mill could open up the front lug area.

Defiance Anti X has pockets on front side of lug, I want to bed it, but im afraid I’m going to turn it into a glue in. I don’t trust putty to stay put. Anyone dealt with this? I’m tempted to just fill the pockets with epoxy and sand it smooth.
Send that back n purchase a REAL lug.

The recoil lug "pockets" are probably the through holes for the dowel pin that locks the recoil lug onto the action and prevents it from rotating during barrel installation. It also registers the lug so you can remove the barrel and reinstall everything without having to rebed the action. Clay works fine to fill the holes you don't use so you don't lock the action into the stock.

No.

I imagine the thinking behind that is most people that use that action are not going to be bedding it, or they have never bedded a stock- its gotta be one of those 2. Modeling clay and done.

Modeling clay or even plumbers putty works. Just did a Anti-x a few weeks ago and used plumbers putty because I ran out of clay. packed it tight and shaved off the excess with a razor blade. Shoe polish and it worked good. No worries. There isn't much if any pressure pushing on those areas when you drop it in there.
