Pockets in recoil lug

Defiance Anti X has pockets on front side of lug, I want to bed it, but im afraid I’m going to turn it into a glue in. I don’t trust putty to stay put. Anyone dealt with this? I’m tempted to just fill the pockets with epoxy and sand it smooth.

Tod.
I'm assuming you are talking about the muzzle side of the lug. You need to tape it off for clearance anyway so it shouldn't be an issue. If it sticks get a bigger hammer.
I’ve never had to do it but my Smith told me if I ever had one stuck while bedding to drop it in a freezer and it will pop loose

I still think modeling clay and tape is your best bet. I too, would worry about wax melting as the epoxy sets up. Not a real brilliant idea to make a lug like that. Although I do like defiance actions . Another idea would be to put release agent on the holes, bed them a little proud. Once dry, apply release agent like you normally would and bed. Then remove the bedding from the lug after the job is finished. Just a thought.

Tod, if that was being done here, I'd fill the pockets with Play Doh or modeling clay. Play Doh cleans up easier so that's what I use. With a razor blade, scrape it flat and tape it off per normal.
A neat bit of CNC work but an extra step for the bedding process, is all.
Good shootin'. -Al

If those voids are filled with epoxy and hardens, the only way it'll come out is to break it off or lift off all your bedding adjacent to it. Freezer works great with synthetic stocks where you just didn't use enough release agent. Don't try the freezer method on wood stocks though, as they contain moisture and the stock will have multiple cracks where the moisture freezes.

What? That claim is going to take some careful explaining!

Not conjecture, been there/seen that! Happened to a friend's 700 BDL stock when it stuck in the bedding and he read similar advice. When moisture freezes, it expands. If you use ice trays, look at how much taller the ice cubes are above the level to which you filled it with water. About all the careful explaining I can think of. I believe it was Will Rogers that said some people learn from reading, some learn from other people and some just have to pee on the (electric) fence to find out for themselves. So maybe put your nice wood stock in the freezer for 24 hrs. and see what happens!

I use clay to fill voids, but just remember to put your release agent over it too. I use Kiwi neutral shoe polish. And I normally just bend the back side of the recoil lug anyway.
