PMA barrel mic, will it fit over a 1-1/8th tenon?

Will this work with a 1.081 pitch diameter tenon? It says it's good for up to 1.075 - Can I bore out a couple thou from the body without some other negative consequence?

Up in it where the micrometer is is flat. I bet you could.

You can bore it, just be a little sloppy fit but not a big deal. They are so easy to make. $50 micrometer spindle off of Ebay and $5 worth of 12L14. Maybe $10 for a precision 1" bearing.
how do you use that tool to measure the length of tenon on a rem counterbore barrel or a fixed breach with chember allready there? A .100 disc would work except you mite wanna take this measurement while the barrel is horizontal— like in the lathe. just been wondering. Thanks

I'd use a depth micrometer to measure tenon length. It's more of a barrel duplicating tool. You use a headspace gauge in conjunction with the 1" ball (might have to use a different 25 degree or 30 degree disk if the 1" ball doesn't contact the chamber edge. Take measurements from a known good barrel and using the measurements, you should be able to duplicate it. Some actions are glue-ins. If your not an FFL, you might not be legal to possess the action.

Right— I know that stuff. I to use a depth mic to measure tenon length but would sure be nice to use something like this to measure tenon length - dont ya think- and i know there are some people that do. just gotta figure it out. Its perfectly legal here for me to possess a bolt acton rifle action. Thanks for your help

I did this one many years ago and gave it to Nez.

I made 2 threaded ones that I use now with the 16&18TPI. The valve is for the bolt nose clearance. I have one for the Bats and another for Kelbly's and others.

The vertical lines allow me to locate the proper location of the lettering on your barrel.

Another piece of duplicating a barrel. Indexed for barrel marking, so you write it down for action your chambering for. That piece is threaded 18 pitch for Panda. You measure it's OAL and scribe it on the side. Use your depth mic over to the side and measure to the end of the tenon. Little math and you have your tenon length. You can make it slip on just as easily but I use the index marks, so threaded makes it dual use.

Hum, just like my photo above.

I like that Butch.

Yes, I want to chamber barrels without having the action. I’ve built a little threaded collar to keep track of how to properly clock the barrel for the action.

That’s effectively what I made. I need to get out the rotary table and engrave the marks on it.

I keep a book with the info for each barrel. I will not need the receiver anymore to chamber a new barrel for each receiver.

The top one is pretty much identical to one I'm making some of right now and posted a thread on. I didn't steal it from ya, I promise. Great minds just think alike! Lol! Do you find the window worthwhile? I put one on one, just to see if I wanted it. Didn't see a lot of value to it but just wondering your thoughts. Not a big deal to add.

Thanks for that info Butch. Those tools are interesting.
