On the subject in the main message board about shooting rights and specifically regarding calibers .

I can't begin to say how self defeating it would be to give in in any area of guncontrol .

Whether it is caliber choice , distance you shoot at etc . I am not a eloquent person so I plead that those of you you who are come to this dog fight and explain why this is so .

I post this here as many never look at the main disc board .

Jimm, I agree with you that we as a group cannot give in whatsoever to the gun control advocates. This means ALL gun owners must stand united no matter what form of firearm or shooting disipline comes under fire.
The post about the .50 cal in the general discussion section sounds like a quote that would come straight out of Barbra Boxers mouth, and I believe on more than one occassion it has.
For any of you that believe one form of firearm or shooting can be sacrificed to save another,I beg you to look at the people we will be dealing with in the coming years. The new Guns and Ammo magazine listed what they called the top six anti-gun activists in the US,the dirty half dozen,I believe they called them).Well, Im here to tell you that those people they listed arent even the tip of the iceberg.
I strongly urge any of you that arent members of the NRA to join without delay, even if you have had an issue with them in the past.Im not a spokesman for them and am not employed by them, but am a member and believe uniting in this organization is our biggest hope for whats headed our way.

Sorry it upsets you. But chest beating and patriotic rhetoric will not secure our right to bear arms.
There were plenty of P'd off folks watching past laws develope, like me). Not a damn thing we could do about it..

Our defensive tactic is questionable. Funneling money into politicians bank accounts could very well be perpetuating further gun legislation. Politicians see the NRA as a big ole piggy bank. Theres plenty of money in it for them. They can rely on getting it with another bill.. I wonder if they would focus on other cash cows if the NRA wasn't there for them. Maybe the environment, drugs, insurance, etc. Lots of other piggy banks.
I'll say this; There is not a decision made, at any level of the US gov't, that is not solely based on cash flow through any given office. If you dig enough, you'll always find this.

We have no offensive tactic. No strategy. No means to impose our will. No matter how united. So we grumble alot, and watch our freedoms fade away.

"Stand together".."Keep trying"...
Abstracts like these seem silly.
Stand together where?
Keep trying what?

What are YOU going to do about it?

There wasnt a damn thing WE could do about it...or there wasnt a damn thing YOU did about it?
The Clinton Crime Bill passed by a very narrow tie breaking vote.Yes I did and do contribute to the NRA/ILA.Yes I did and do write my representatives.Yes,I did put a petition at our local gun shop and gathered other local signatures to urge our reps to vote against this legislation. Was it futile....maybe,considering our Honorable Rep. Tim Johnson cast the tie breaking vote in favor of the bill.In correspondence with Rep Johnson after the bill passed he told me felt his vote represented what was good for the nation.I reminded him he wasnt elected by,or elected to represent the nation. He had no other reply.Yes,it was disheartning but hasnt stopped my pen or keyboard from working.

True enough. But if we as gun owners arent willing to support what we want to keep, there are more than enough people and money to see that we cant keep it.Yes the NRA contributes to campaigns. Can you name an organization or special interest that doesnt? Considering the rights we have have been paid for in blood numerous times,a little financial support seems insignificant.

Seeing the pro-gun legislation that has passed since Pres Bush took office,I simply do not see this as true. There are what, only 2 or 3 states that dont have concealed carry laws now?Do you think that would have ever happened under the previous administration. We have laws protecting firearm manufactures we didnt have previously. We have laws protecting you right to bear arms during a state of emergency,no trivial legislation considering what happen in NO).Much of the Clinton Crime Bill is history.Do you think gun owners had nothing to do with this in the past elections?

You figure that out Mike, the people that want your rights already have.

What are YOU going to do about it?

Continue what I have always done and hopefully the people of the US will see the people they put in office for what they are.Leftist liberals with an agenda of control over peoples lives by having them rely on government agencies more and more.

I'll continue to give to the NRA myself. Even while questioning it. I'll be responsible with firearms, and instill this in my son. That's all I can do.

Hopefully you're right.
Hopefully, the hammer won't drop anytime soon.
