Please, scale advice needed quickly!

My question is, that hole in the beam I have indicated with a red arrow, is there supposed to be something in there like a weight? Mine is just an empty hole. I've had this scale for more than 20 years and never noticed that hole, or if it was filled with something.

You're description is a little hard to understand. Picture is worth a thousand words, yah know.

Below is a pic that shows the hole you speak of and appears to be some kind of viewing or some kind of adjustment hole as there is something in there where you can't see all the way through. Does you're still look exactly like this?

Here's a picture I just grabbed off the net. See how the foot is extended so far? That's like mine now. It was never like that before. When zeroed it had no threads, of very few threads, exposed.

You have a 500 grain scale , those holes are typical for yours and mine, in 1000 grain scales there is a stud to hang a counter weight.
Look at your Agate cover, it appears crooked

Your copper vane doesn’t appear in the middle of your magnets either

Thank you for all the replies. I think maybe I wasn't clear enough when I posted that picture. Forgive me, it was late and I should have been sleeping. That picture is not my scale, it is just a picture I found on the internet which I used to illustrate the hole in the beam I was asking about.

Did ya actually drop the scale ???
Fell on it with every bit of my 175 pounds.

Actions taken: weighted two each quarter, dime, nickel and penny on another reloader's scale, then weighed on mine. Same-same. Ordered check weights. Going forward; order a used Ohaus or RCBS 505 on E-Bay. Never hurts to have a spare, especially for the price they're going for!

Case closed. Thanks again everyone.

Don't waste money on a cheap digital.

Check weights are the way to go. I use them every time I use a scale.

Balance beam scale is pretty simple technology. As long a the beam moves freely and the check weights verify accuracy you are good to go.

Now you can spend a bunch of money on lab grade check weights but i don't believe you are trying to weigh powder to the 0.01. This set will do the job and give you confidence in your scale weights. All for less than $10

At the end of your day you have to ask yourself... How much is my face, my eyesight and my hands worth?

I would say a heck of a lot more than a $100 bucks for a new scale.

My last trip to emergency room (not reloading related) for stitches was $4300
So if even a minutiae of doubt exists do not take chances with reloading equipment.
But that is my opinion only, I happen to like my original equipment...

This morning I was carrying my RCBS scale 505 and fell on the stairs, falling hard on the scale. Now, it measures a range of bullet weights accurately, 40, 52, 75, and 125 all within normal limits but the screw foot that is used to level/zero the scale is screwed out a whole lot more than it was before.

I don't have a hundred bucks laying around to run out and buy a new scale. I need something inexpensive to use, and to check my 505 against.

A local shop has a Lyman Pocket Touch 1500, a Frankford Arsenal DS-750, and a RangeMaxx Mini Digital, all under 35 bucks. Any advice on which one is preferable?

Thanks in advance.

If you still need a solution, I have a spare 505 you can have for the shipping cost.

It might not be exactly what your looking for, but I have a AWS-100 mini scale that is pretty accurate and consistent. They're only $15.45 on Amazon. I used it today to verify that my other scale was reading properly. AWS-100 said 20.02g, and expensive scale said 20.019g (that's grams, not grains). Same consistency at 5g and 50g. Check weights are mandatory, but don't get the cheap ones like I did.

The Smart Weigh works very well for me. I've compared with my M5 and with a variety of check weights- very reliable and repeatable.
