Pivot shooting bench plans

Looking back on some past post I can't seem to load or find a set of plans. I'm looking for some shooting bench plans like the Cadwell or Coyote Jake. Would go buy one just want to build a custom aluminum one with the possibility of some carbon fiber mixed in.

Aluminum will make it light. I have made several rotating shooting benches, and I can recommend that the first priority is a smooth, chatter free rotation, and the ability to make small rotational changes with no stick-slip. Metal on metal bearings are better than metal on plastic. The second is stability. When you get it to where you want it, it should stay there, and not move around as you shift position, or when the wind blows.

Making it for yourself means that you won't have to accommodate different sized people, and you won't need adjustability.

Powderbrake thanks for the tips do you have any pics of the few you have built?

Dusty. I honestly don't think there is a viable way to make the aluminum ones and sell them for reasonable price just the materials alone in the product are pretty spendy I can source out 5052 aluminum here but it's still $$

It doesnt matter the cost as long as it is shippable. Ive seen some go for over $1k. You just gotta make it break down like with bolted flanges or something the end user can assemble one time like an ikea bookshelf

Justin B, here is the most recent one.

It is currently being manufactured by my son's shooting target company, so I really can't give out plans. My benches have all been steel. If you are going for aluminum, the welding is a little more difficult and you will also need a pretty large lathe to make the post parts. My seat rotates with the tabletop and the bronze bearing holds the weight of the top and the shooter. I personally have never found a reason to not rotate them together. As a general recommendation, avoid the tube and socket joints that have only 1 to 2 X the diameter for length of the joint. They are never very rigid as they rotate, and they are not really rigid when you lean on them.
While some bench leg assemblies fold up, it generally adds weight and bulk to pack in the car/truck/SUV.

As Dusty Stevens said, we needed it to be disassembled into a small enough package to ship it, and as is, it ships in two packages, one for the stand and one for the top and seat.

From many years with my BR Pivot, I suggest you have an additional adjustable leg at the rear of the shooting side. It should be tightened so it pushes slightly up on the table to offset weight shooter imparts on it. The longer you are shooting, the more important it is. Keep at it.

I could draw up some plans. I would suggest using threaded pipe for construction. Then you don't need to ship the pipe. You can just go buy the pipe local. You just need the critical hardware.

I can get that made.
