Point well made. The one wall is to shield the cabin from the blast. The front & left side will be open. Most my shooting is with cast so normally I don't make a bunch of noise.
Built mine years ago with the U shape, loved it. Shot left handed and really liked the extra room on top for ammo and gear.
Gave it plenty of coats of house paint, maybe 10-12 coats. Lasted maybe 15-18 years, then one of the legs rotted off(wood). would build another, would recommend to a friend. now using conventional benches(concrete) built by others at the range.
