Pillar bedding

I asked a short time ago if I could bed a stock myself and I see that it should not be that hard.
Next question is do I need to pillar bed the new stock as it is a hunting rifle but I love my guns to shoot as good as the can.
Does pillar bedding make the bedding job past my skill level for a first time attempt.
Thanks

For me the hardest thing about doing a proper bedding job, with or without, pillars is to remember to be patient and take your time. 99% of a good bedding job is all done before the bedding compound is ever mixed together. Your patience and prep work will determine 99% of your outcome. For some homework, here is a video to help give you some ideas/tips. I find that watching several different methods helps me determine what application is best for my situation and lack of expertise. don't be afraid to watch several guys do this to determine what you feel most comfortable with. Its not rocket science but with patience and practice you can turn out something to really be proud of. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GItWubJX6VY

If you are thinking of pillars then the best thing is to do it the first time..Good prep work is a good suggestion, I tape a lot off as to skip most of the clean up..I like to mix a little more then expected and be liberal applying it..Try not to work the stock and action to much, meaning once you mate the two the less movement between them so not to create air pockets and voids..Measure twice and cut once, Right?

If it's a Remington 700 you can rent a jig and a bit from http://www.scorehi.com/ for drilling the stock. No worries about getting the holes misaligned.

OK Fellas I guess when after bedding the new stock if I can shoot around corners I will tell the wife it is all you guys fault-LOL
Thanks for the help

also one tip i forgot to mention. to help prevent voids or air pockets also apply bedding to the stock and the action both before mating them together.
