pillar bedding mauser action

When pillar bedding a mark X mauser action the front pillar ends up to only be about .110 thousands, the question is since the front guard screw goes thru the bottom of the recoil lug do you bed the bottom and the pillar going thru the stock? .110 thousands is not much to be held in place by the bedding material! The floor plate has a recess that mates up with the recoil, lug area, unlike a rem 700 or others that I have done in the past. thanks, Ron

I have bedded two Mauser actions. One a VZ24 and one a M93. In both cases, I carefully mounted and bedded the pillar at the rear and just glass bedded the bottom of the action and around the recoil lug. I filled the "front pillar" area with putty to keep glass out of that area.
I have no idea if what I did was right! But, both guns shoot. My VZ24 is no better than a standard modern hunting rifle, but I stubbornly used a WWII surplus 7X57 barrel! My grandson's M93 with a 7X57 re-chambered Remington 7mm barrel shoots lights out! Yes, I will be re-barreling my VZ24 soon as my 7mm F class barrel gets a few more rounds through it.

Don't forget the key to the inherent accuracy of the Mauser action starting with the M93 was the pillar for the rear action screw. Many folks that take apart old Mausers leave that sleeve out when re-assembling! Bad idea!

But, the best way to treat the front screw? I don't know, but would like to find out.
