Pillar and glass bedding at same time

i couldn’t really find a thread I liked so I thought I might as well just throw it up... wondering what your thoughts on doing it all at once are... or is it better to do it in separate steps?.... on one hand I see doing it separate to keep a little more eye and control on what’s going on... on other seems like doing it all at once all compound is connected to it would be stronger..?? Any thoughts appreciated

Got thinking I should supply some extra info ... this particular rifle of mine was my first bedding job, and was too nervous to dive into pillars at the time... since I have done 5 other rifles.. but which for some lucky reason all had pillars in stocks already... pulled this gun out other day and action screws were half ass tight.. so thought well I guess I’m putting in some pillars and re doing glass bed job....

I was too chicken to do them together when I started. Now ALWAYS bed with pillars attached.

Opinions differ. I prefer to do mine in two steps. First is setting the pillars in the stock while they are secured to the action. Making sure the barrel is centered in the forearm and proper spacing all around.
After that has set up, I'll go back and do the rest of the bedding making sure to use LOTS of mold release.;)

that moment when you realized you mixed at least twice the amount of compound that you need... what a waste........ on a good note a couple more hours and we will see if it comes apart..

Yep, I have bedded a second rifle 'really fast' a couple times by ripping it apart, getting a release agent applied, and chiseling out a bit of wood and slamming things together before the epoxy was too stiff. Granted it was likely for just a little plinking rifle sitting here or there, but I made it, and it came apart afterwards...whew!!! All to save that extra $7 worth of epoxy sitting on the mixing pad!
