pig down NO Huge Hog down

Ok guys I have posted on hog hunting at another site,( please don't hate me ) As of today we have 18 hogs down and ready for more.My friends dad said to kill kill kill,so I am giving it my best.I worked up a 150gn FMJ load along with a 165gn NAB load.I used the 150 FMJ last night with a good head shot on a +/- 300# sow.I haven't got the moving shot down yet.Was never good at bird hunting anyway. >:(

Or hunt was great,we had a big full moon to help out.We first pulled up with 50 or more hogs to my left.Tried to put the headlights on them but soon saw that they are keen to headlights. So we cut the lights/truck off, about ten minutes later we had them again. Was able to get about 100 yards closer to them.( ended up 200 yards away )When we all ( three of us ) got locked in on one hog each.( we went to shooting ) Well I can say for sure my first shot was a hit ( in the head/ all so hear it hit ) but cannot say to my buddies.I think they had hog fever. ;D

So I just wanted to let ya'll in on the fun,me I am loving it.If one has anything to offer please do,we need all we can get.So far we need someone to process the darn things. Our deer processers want mess with a pig/hog.If anyone has tips please give.

thanks for reading

Search "hog butchering" on youtube.com for plenty of graphic how-to's, tips and tricks.

Can't imagine why no one will process them. Even the butchers in Calif. do pigs as well. They are not that difficult to butcher. Bear in mind when they get that big they are tough so lots of stew/ground meat is the norm. Good eating though! Long and slow with the ribs...

No Bacon on wild hogs, Dooh! ;D Skin it and have a Pig Roast. Your favorite sauce brushed on while cooking(I prefer over charcoal) and you will have lots of friends and good eating!

Hey thanks for posting.

Yes,it's been hard but found a guy today. He said that he would skin and process for us.The removing of the hair was on us.I told him 200# plus we would use him,the 200# and less we would do.The only reason we want the hide still on is for BBQ,the rest for stove cooking or small grill.

Yes,I have done some looking around already.Even looked up how to do a ham,my dad even spoke of doing a hog in the old days.We hope to have more than we can eat for sure.

If any of ya lived close by I would take out for a 15 minute rush.

Looks to me you are having a good time.I wish I was there but alas that is only a dream for me.

Johnboy,
You guys need a red varmint hunting light. You can put it right on them & they don't see it. If they're running, just put the crosshairs in front of the chest, 200 yds will be about a foot.

I shot a couple in Texas over Christmas vacation, Best pork bbq I ever had. I just rendered down the carcass to quarters on a large hog. And when I got it home here in Wyoming Made roasts and ground the trimmings and smaller pieces. I use the ground meat to mix in with antelope because the antelope is lean and dries out when making meatloaf and burgers and such. :)

Good deal guys and thanks.

Yeah I think we have a red lens for the spot light,so we'll use it the next time ( tomorrow night )

OK I did get up with a guy who does deer,he said sure he'll skin and process for us. ( weekends only ) said that softball had started and he was a coach.SO we'll give him a try.I even was able to talk to a guy that knew a guy,and he said that he might do it for us.This guy does it for himself and makes sausage to sale.So I told him to tell the guy that we can offer alot more hogs for trade to make sausage with, just hope he wants to work with us.

If you want in on the fun PM me for my info,I'll be glade to let you in on it.I'm not far from Rockingham NC

Google in "the Kill Light" . They have some pretty cool stuff for killing pigs at night. Green lights.

A word of warning about cutting up hogs when they're still warm. A friend of mine considers himself an expert with a knife. We Tom Sawyer'd him into doing the knife work. Apparently as the pig cools down the fleas are looking for a new host. Voila, there's a new host right up front. About 2am there was a tremendous amount of cussing while my friend was shucking clothes his sleeping bag and heading for the shower! Wait until the next morning when the pig has cooled down and the varmints have left! Dennis

I absolutely am going to remember that, as a Yankee I also had to learn not to grab a southern deer by the ears. Never saw too many that didn't have ticks behind them.

Thanks,we will keep this tip on the top of the list.So far the hogs are harder to kill.We really need one of those red lens,as soon as a light hits one they all run.Had 40 or so last night, but or light told them to hall butt.....

They tell me that they deucate fast, check out that site "the Kill Light". They will absolutely have something you can use.

Hey thanks,I sure will check into it.

Dude if I could afford it I would buy some sort of night vision. And I'm sure not joining Uncle Sam either just to get it.We'll just have to work with what we have.

OK I haven't been back in like two weeks, just haven't had the time.I to have to say that since I am NOT going to spend no more than I have to,I will not be getting one of those nice lights.I cannot see myself putting $150 into a light for a one time deal.I thank those who have offered their time and ideas. If I was to get into a pest control type thing I would buy one,but for now I am just trying to be a friend and put some meat in the frez.

Since I am not willing to buy a light, and the hogs knowing what or lights are for,I'll hunt by moon only.So the next few hunts will be around the full moon ( 23- 28 of this month ) Just hope that we can put a few down to help out and get some meat for the frez.

I thank you again, and if you have anything else that might help please say,for he still has well over 50 hogs running around.

OK I've got a guy about to die to go hunting,so I called the owner and we are good to go.So I hope for him that the hogs will do their part and be out, even stand for a second so he can get one one or two off.I'll check in later and post to what went on.
