PICATENNY rail on SAVAGE 99 Eairlier model

Have a SAVAGE 99 in 22 Hi-Power , anyone ever mounted a EGW PICATENNY rail on a 99.

EGW DOES NOT MAKE A SCOPE BASE FOR THE 99 , is there a Base out there that can be

Mounted ?

I wouldn't drill holes in a Model 99,,, not even for money. I had a guy call me this afternoon wanting to know about 'custom' bases fit to his 99C, that had been drilled and taped sometime in the past. Non std. screw hole spacing, and the mount that's on it isn't working out. He must have figured it's an easy job, 'cause he didn't like my estimate.

Short grass is right. Don't mess with that one. They're a lot more valuable than any of the other 99s.

You know you're in for it when the request for work starts out like "All ya gotta do is..."

Thats all you gotta do! Classic.
My last general gunsmithing job over 20yrs ago a guy wanted a new extractor put in a single barrel 12 ga. I put it in there having to make tools, jigs, etc- cant remember all the whys. Had 6-8hrs in it. Told my boss just charge $50 cause i feel bad it took so long. When i came back my boss handed me the gun and said the guy gave it to me. I said wtf. He said he came in to get his gun i told him it was $50 the guy started screaming and cussing in front of kids and women and said it was only $63 new at walmart. I still have that gun and use it as a lesson

The same guy probably wouldn't bat an eye over a huge bill for Harley foot pegs or chrome wheels for a truck, or some other form of useless bling. "If a customer won't allow you a profit, show them the door". Read that somewhere and pretty much live by it.
Getting back to the 99, I cant comment on the collectability of that one, but you could put some Weaver bases on there and maybe come up with a rail that attaches to those?? EGW doesn't make a picatinny base for a 99 because this is probably the first request or one in 6 months or longer.

I had to explain to him what "gunmaker" bases are! I guess he's used to dealing with a "gunsmith" that doesn't mind living like a pauper, but couldn't do the 'custom' bases, either.... Over the years I've seen several 99s that were cracked between the locking abuttment and that closest scope mount screw hole.

Those gunmaker bases would be a total pain to fit to the rear end of a 99.

Another great quote, usually seen in an answer to some guys question on a forum, from them that DNS (Dont Know S**t) is something like "That should be a piece of cake for any gunsmith".
