Peterson 6 Dasher Brass

Just got my Peterson 6 Dasher brass.
@Ccrider have you had time to do any measuring?
The necks on the few I sampled came in .0138 to .014 but a few other numbers are concerning.
I'd like to hear what your sample measures to the datum and diameter just below the shoulder/body junction.
just a reminder,,,,my chambers are .271 ND,,,if this brass is .014 neck thickness then ,,,.243 +.014+.014 = .271" ,,,,that requires turning of the necks !!!....I will not be able to use these because of the lack of clearance in my NO TURN neck,,,without turning,,,Roger

But, from what I've seen, the necks should be consistent enough that a slight "clean up" neck turn will be easy. I am not worried about the neck thickness because I always do a light turn on the Dasher any way.
My area of concern is just how far the Peterson Dasher brass will have to blow out on the first firing.
It appears the brass will require a fire form load before it is ready for a match.

I would have tried a pound first, It's too bulky for the Dasher I found. More so than H4350.... jim
Yikes! Oh no.
Hope that’s not the case. I’ve read people get up to 33gr of it in the dasher. Shall see I guess.
My dasher has 1500 rounds down it. Was hoping to just finish it off with this stuff.
*doubt I try it in the Peterson then...since it has a little less case capacity
-impulse buy...election and all the gun sales...this may be our worst dry spell yet.

update-- plenty of room in a dasher with 4166.
maybe he was thinking of imr4451?

Necks were very consistent when I neck turned. No high and low spots at all, just a clean neck turn.
You can tell from my picture that the case does fire form and change. Like I said, mine shot best at 32.2 but I’m guessing after fire forming that number may go up to 32.4(just a guess at this point)

How much forward did the shoulder move after the first firing?

You can say what you want about Peterson Brass, but you will be lowing if you say that they do not do an excellent job of packaging their brass-better than anyone else I have seen. Great start.

I wouldn't put too much faith in their packaging. I received 2 boxes of 6x47L today for making 25x47L. The box tops, hinges and latches were all shattered. I just hope that is not an indication of future performance.

Per my headspace, mine blew forward 12thou.
Per my reamer mine blew out 6thou at the shoulder.
My Peterson 6 Dasher measures, IIRC, .007 short of the go gauge so it will have to blow out at least that far. Also, the shoulders of the Peterson are not nearly sharp enough (more rounded). I can see these needing at least one or quite possibly two loadings with lighter loads to get them properly blown out.
I don't see any $ saving over having DJ's hydro form Dasher from Lapua brass, not to mention I am able to load a shoot my normal loads in his brass right from the start.

Yup, looks like case capacity is definitely going to be lower on the Peterson brass!

The form on the Norma BR brass is interesting!

When you start loading them, be sure that your primers seat below the case head. I had some of their brass that had shallow primer pockets and had to cut the pockets deeper.
Meaning Alpha or Peterson? The thread started on Peterson, but now it’s a mixed bag.

I would use any of them once they are fire formed and prepped! After 7 firings my Alpha brass has tight pockets and accuracy is great!

So, now for the big question. The Peterson obviously has less capacity than the standard for Dasher brass (Lapua). Has anyone done enough testing with this brass (post fire forming to chamber) to establish a baseline for velocity in barrels of 26, 28 and even 30"?
In other words, my sweet spot has been 32.7 Varget, CCI450, Lapua brass and a 105VLD. I doubt I can get there with Peterson brass but just how close can we go? (safely)

I normally shoot the Norma BR fireformed to Dasher, and recently bought some of the Peterson Dasher brass. I finally got out to shoot some of the Peterson the other day, and shot a few of my Norma loads first as a baseline. With 105 hybrids moly coated, my Norma BR brass gets 33.0 gr of Varget and the MV was 2974 fps. I loaded the Peterson lighter, using 32.2 gr Varget and the MV was 2952 fps. 32.2 in the Peterson brass was a slightly compressed load. The rifle has a 28" barrel.

Edit to add that I was fire forming the Peterson which was about .006" shorter than the chamber to start out.
