Peterson 308 Match lp brass

Just revived a new box of fifty Peterson 308 Match large primer brass.

If any one is interested, I would like to share some measurements I found.

After first opening the box I checked the over all length and found they were all between 2.004" and 2.007" I will not have to trim them before loading. A very nice thing.

Next, I checked the in side of the case flash hole and found no burrs. It looked like they had all ready been done. Do they do this at the factory? I did use the K&m tool to check for the correct diameter of the flash hole. All checked good.

I uniformed the primer pockets and got a very small amount of brass shavings, a lot less than some other brands I have worded with.

Next, I chamfered the out side of the necks so to have a good surface for checking the neck thickness.
I only checked ten out of the fifty but after seeing that there was only .00043" difference, I believe they are consistent enough for me. The neck walls I checked were .0148" to .0150" on the best of them to .0147" to .0155" on the thickest.

Next, I checked their weight on a fx120i. Just to see how they varied, before checking their H2o volume.
There was one at 174.0 gn. on one side of the lot and 176.1 gn. on the heavier side of the lot.
with most of them running 175.0 gn. to 175.5 gn.

Next, I carefully checked all fifty for H2o volume.
They varied from 53.42 gn. to 54.3 gn. That is a difference of only .088 gn. WOW.
And if you remember I did not trim them for length, which was around .003"

Now I know why I hear so much good reports on Peterson Brass.

Thank you for letting me share. I know this is old news for some, but if there are others out there looking to add some new brass to their inventory, I thought this might be good info.

P.S. I do not have any affiliation with Peterson Brass. I just hang out here.

I bought some just over 2 yrs ago and the numbers you got are right in line with what I had then, except for their weight. But my scale isn't as accurate as yours (10 cases averaged 176.9 for me with only a 1.4 gr ES). H20 volume was the same and I found it's ~.4 gr less than what I get with Lapua.

Bought 100 of these and 300 Lapua last year for the new rifle. They shoot the same or better than the Lapua. Will consider using them exclusively when I have to buy more.

Bought 100 of these on a whim , figuring to use them for summer practice shoots so I could save my Lapua for Matches . As others have said ; they checked out very nicely overall . Did the usual prep & loaded up 50 with my normal 600 load of 43.1gr of Varget behind a 185 Jugg , a Winchester Standard LRP and off to the range . They shot good , consistent , and SD's ran 9.6 . Workable for practice brass ...Now ; the downside . Eight of the 50 cases had blown primer pockets after only one firing . And that's no where near a case-killer load . Only lost four more in the second 50 cases , but 12 out of a hundred ? Hope their SRP is a little higher quality . I've got a hundred of those to try out , too . Definitely prefer to buy American , but can't afford to throw out 10% of my cases every time I shoot them . Bad taste in my mouth for Petersen for now .

My tests mirror yours. As my Lapua brass wears out, i'm replacing them with Peterson. Eventually, Lapua will be a brand of the past in my shooting sports. Thanks Peterson.

I bought two boxes of the 308 SRP over a year ago still on the first box with over 50 reloads on them now. I have shot them in three different rifles doing full resize most of the time neck sizing sometimes also. Primer pockets are still tight not one has splint. I do anneal the necks after every firing. Can't wear the stuff out.

I've got 100 of the SRP that I haven't touched yet , but the OP was asking about LRP brass , and that is what I've had my issues with . Maybe I just wasn't holding my jaws in the right position when I loaded the LRP stuff . Who knows ? I am extremely hopeful that the small primer brass lives up to it's billings , as I do hear a lot of good about it on several sites . It'll have to impress the Hell outa me though , to give up my Lapua .
