Pet GroundHog

That's an awesome picture I couldn't imagine if the groundhogs I shoot had cold beer with them it would be like I died and went to heaven

I have seen it all now. Thanks. I will never think lf these fat fuzzies the same again.

I have wanted to get a young one to raise as a pet but have yet to catch one
Had a customer tell me he raised a squirrel, I did not think that was possible to tame but he told me I'm wrong

My best friend and his wife raised on from a pup. Kept it in a dog crate in the down stairs at night, but would take it out regularly to play with his dogs in the house. It would climb up and sit on his lap like a dog as well. :D
It finally died of old age at about seven.

On groundhog day two years ago, the mayor of Sun Prairie, WI. found out what it feels like when a "tame" one bites your ear. He put it down in a hurry. Either it hurt, or it doesn't take long for him to listen to a groundhog whisper the weather forecast!

I used to have one as a pet and he had free reign of the house for years. We were close and he quickly earned to talk which was a lot of fun.

Finally kicked him out of the house when I found out I was the victim of a cruel hoax, my dog was a ventriloquist.

Friend of the family had one as a pet years ago, kept old cardboard carpet tubes around the edges of some of his walls and the hog stayed in those a lot.

Many years ago , I was driving slowly down an old country road . I saw a little Woodchuck with his head tucked into a small hole . I stopped the car and was surprised he did not move . I took off my old Army jacket and folded him into it . Just a short distance away was my Grandfathers farm . I put the small Chuck into a metal bird cage . He seemed pretty peaceful and I was soon feeding him carrot slices . However , when one of our dogs walked by , the little Chuck would chatter and pace around inside the bird cage . I left him on the enclosed front porch overnight , and somehow he escaped . As hard to believe as it was , the only exit I could see was the very small hole used for a water dispenser . Oh , in those days we had a bunch of Germans working with us for about a year before they had to return to Germany . This was in the days when Imported Beers were non-existent . When I asked them which American Beer they preferred they all said : Schmidts .

I have raised 3 gray squirrels, and one flying squirrel,
just never had the opportunity to get a young ground hog.
I have killed them by the hundreds before the coyotes moved in.
They are so rare anymore, I wouldnt dare shoot one. LDS

come on guys someone had to drink that Schmidt beer...Ah fatting him up for the pot..I have ate a few of them.
they can be omnivorous. I seen one eating another dead groundhog. that's were they get the name dirtpig cause like a pig they will eat just about anything. But none the less he like dairy queen ice cream bread and beer that is what I heard she used to feed him . I was about 10 years old when that picture was taken and shocked that is was found and I was able to get a copy of it.

When I was 13 I had a "pet"crow. Raised from a young chick, feed it canned dog food. As it grew to adult hood I kept it in a dog pen but let if come and go as it pleased. It was a great pet but got me into a lot of trouble. It pecked holes in my aunts screens and it pecked holes in my dad's tomatos in the garden. It liked Iron City Beer, a local Pittsburgh brew, which is about the worse tasting beer you could imagine but my Dad love it. When I'd come home from school I call it, and it would fly to me and land on my out streched arm. It love shiney objects, it would take gum wrapper and any pieces of foil and hide them in the pen. I had it for almost a year then it flew away during mating season.

Best pet I ever had.

my uncles had several over the years back in the 50's-60's,,,,I liked hearing them grunt as they ran thru the house playing,,,,one ate a hole in the back of the living room couch,,,grandma run that one off,,,,another bit uncle Willard between the bones in his forearm,,,I think that was the last one he had,,hahaha,,,,,Roger
