personal best for my 22 BR

this 12 twist 22 BR continues to amaze me! "harvested" 26 ghogs in a row last year shooting 64 gr bergers and n540. last sat as i was leaving a long rolling field i glanced at the most distant hill that was in the shade. a ghog was leisurely grazing and was going up the hill slowly. ranged him at 381 yds and there was no crosswind, finally. out came the 22 BR and i put the 1/8 min dot of the 8-32 sightron on his chest at 26 power...i wanted to see the shot. BANG..SPLATT AND DRT! it amazes me how fast the bullet gets there. not a shudder! the bullet hit exactly where i sent it and there was a tiney exit. the clover was still in his mouth. my 22-250 was almost as accurate but at the expense of a lot more powder and significantly more barrel wear. currently working loads up for a 14 twist, tight chambered 22 BR that shows great promise with 60 gr bergers that i hollowpoint and 63 gr cheeks, the 60s are going at 3600 fps and seem to explode the smaller ghogs...really messy.

Good shot on that one!! Yep, the 22br is indeed a dandy of a rifle for varmints and coyotes. Sounds like yours is right in tune too. ;) WD

That is really good for me to hear since I am getting a 22br (my first) chambered at this very moment.

Mine is also a 14 twist and I have 40-50-and 55 gr. bullets to try in it and it's main purpose will also be groundhog hunting as well.

Thanks for the post and info., now I am really excited about getting it done!

Alan

My 14 twist .22br loves the 50-55 grain bullets and N-135 powder. Anything over .25" at 100 yards is shooter error. Try the Hornady V-Max bullets-super accurate and explosive on varmints.

the 50-52 gr bullets are wickedly fast and really do ghogs in, and out at short range. i had one get away after being hit, so i tried heavier bullets and they keep their energy longer. my 14 twist will stabilize the 64s but they shoot the best in the 12 twist.
