Perplexation

While loading my dasher cases with powder I noticedone piece that the powder went up the neck as were the others were at the shoulder junction as expected so I reweighed the powder and it was correct then dumped the charge into another case and it filled correctly...ummmmmm weighed the case was within tolerance of the others. So I checked inside the case for cleaning media..no findings. So how can one case weigh what the others do yet have a signifacant fuller case?? Anyone else ever notice this? ??? ??? Prolly cut the case in half some how and inspect.

Something is definitely amiss. Had the case had been fireformed into dasher? Good job on catching that!
Curious to see what you find.

What happened to you is the reason alot of benchrest shooters sort their brass by water capacity instead of by weight. I can't explain how or why it happens but it will make a great group into a decent group.

I think it is better to sort brass by powder capacity than by weight. Wait until after at least the first normal firing, and fill each case level to the top of the neck, weigh the powder, and then dump to the next case and repeat. A fine powder probably makes the process more accurate.

Re: Perplexing

Usually the simplest explanation is correct.

Before I got too crazy about that case, I would weigh another powder charge and pour it slowly into that case and check. Using the same charge do another case and compare.

I am thinking that the powder just settled with some form of an air pocket/s.

Again, my $.02 is that it was just a fill issue not a case volume issue. Do the above and see what happens. I am always open to learning something.
