Perhaps the Dumbest Question...

I would love to have a 6mmBR that is mag fed, but since that seems difficult or probably unreliable, I may have to go single shot. In that case, and if using a Remington or some other action that normally has a blind magazine (load from top), how does one deal with the opening in the bottom of the action and blind mag? Block off the opening in the bottom of the receiver, leave the mag guts in and put something over the top, or...? I am just wondering how this would work if I get a Howa 308 barreled action and replace the barrel with a 6mmBR custom barrel.

One other question. Would it be possible to pull a 243 Winchester barrel off a factory gun and rechamber it in 6mmBR? The bullets are both 6mm.

Sorry for the naïve question, but still learning (the basics).

I believe that 6BRs can be made to feed. You might look under gunsmiths on the Benchrest Central (www.benchrest.com) for Mike Bryant. By the time that you fix what needs it on a factory action a clone may be a better way to go, but if that is not in the budget a Criterion "Remage" (Savage type nut on a barrel for a Remington) is probably your best alternative. Just have the front of your action squared on a lathe. Make sure both lugs bear, and except for a little barrel channel modification, if you started with a sporter, and some action bedding, you should be all set. You can get a trigger spring kit from Ernie the Gunsmith, and you should be good to go in that department.

Get a Remington or clone action and put it in an Eliseo R5 chassis to use the Eliseo mags. 6BR will feed smooth like butter.

FYI I think that these are the magazines that Gary's tube gun uses. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/528435/ptg-trigger-guard-for-aics-detachable-box-magazine-remington-700-short-action-aluminum-black

Not the R5. It is completely different and uses a proprietary mag for the BR class of rounds where the bullets protrude out the front. The system is absolutely reliable.

You will need a Sako extractor on a Remington 700 also to make it eject properly.

I wanted to use a Howa action, in part because it already has a M16 style extractor. I do not know how their extractor differs from a Sako, or even which is superior, but I think the two are similar. ???

This thread goes over the necessary mods to make an AI mag, function flawlessly feeding a 6BR. You will have to read down a ways.

Phil - is this for a bolt action or AR style?

I bought a Howa in .308 and re-barrelled it to 6br (Howa supreme varminter). I placed single rounds into the mag and shot that way...didn't modify a thing...

Possibly the mag would feed fine if you pushed the bolt forward via the bolt shroud rather than using the bolt handle...thats what I did anyways and I can't recall having any issues...was only placing a single round in at a time though.

I used it varminitng and f-classing...75 v-max for varmints and 95Berger vld for f-class.

I am currently building a 6 Dasher on a Marlin XS7. It is a 308 so I can switch barrels if needed. I tried Dasher ammo and it feed no problems. I do not care for detachable mags, but I tried the Ruger American and they feed out of the mag fine. I would think a 6 BR would work as well. My rifle should be done next week, I'll let you know how it performs. Barlow

This is for a bolt action. I am really surprised you could push a single 6mmBR round into the internal mag and the round was picked up and chambered. Do I understand this correctly? If so, I wonder how many rounds you could load before it acted up..., if at all?

I don't know enough about bolt actions to know why there is any difference between pushing the bolt closed via the bolt handle or the bolt shroud. I would a round loaded by using the bolt handle.

you need a .223 AICS compatible magazine. i am currently looking for one to try, but haven't had any luck yet.

These sites are not showing a backorder that I saw, but still may not have any.

It seems that whether a 6mmBR can feed (and eject) out of a 308 magazine is to a certain extent dependent on the rifle. - Phil

Phil,,,corect on it being dependant on the rifle,,,,the bolt nose whether flat or cone breach and the extractor whether M-16 and ejector type and orientation to the extractor,,,its a delicate balance,,,,Roger
