I have had a Magnetospeed for a number of years. I like it a lot and use it frequently.

It's been missing since about the middle of July. Just seems to have disappeared from my shooting gear.

Today I got out a tote in the basement that contains plumbing tools, fittings and supplies. And there in the the tote was my Magnetospeed.

It wasn't me who put it there. Anybody else experience such...strange occurrences?

How old are you?
 
I got a Nikon builders level that I needed the other day and could not find. Was it in that tote? I would give $20 to know where it is.

When we were kids, my brothers and I always blamed a rarely visiting cousin for all things, missing, broken, etc. Looks like she has paid you a visit!

Who ever did that to you, also stole my lawnmower key! I say, Lets hang'em!
 
Looking back on it it's all clear to me now.

Some time ago, rather than carrying EVERYTHING back and forth between the van/garage to the house for every shooting trip, I had decided to just leave certain low-value items in the van at all times to make life a little easier.

One day I had a stopped drain at a rental house. I loaded up some plumbing stuff and went over there. Had a helper meet me there. We took care of business and loaded up the van and went our separate ways. Upon my return home my wife, as she often does, helped me carry the tools back into the house and put them away. So somewhere along the line the Magnetospeed got combined with the plumbing tools by some who really didn't know. And I failed to put two and two together when I first could not find the M-speed.

So bottom line, somebody else's fault. I'm a victim here.

I have a 16 month old helper in the house who has strong opinions about how things should be organized. My wife and I are finding things in all sorts of new places. Did you know that spare rolls of toilet paper should ideally be stored in your largest kitchen pot?

I hope I eventually have the same experience as you because I’ve been missing one of my rangefinders for almost 2 years. I have LRF binos and and another handheld LRF so not in a bind but still bothers me. I know it got misplaced and still hope it will show up somewhere one day.
