Pelican vs. Storm Cases

I would like to buy a good airline rifle case. What are your opinions of the Pelican,1750) vs. the Hardigg Storm case,3300 I think)?

I can tell you that I have used the Pelicans and they are outstanding. I had equipment shipped to Iraq in these cases and was never disappointed.

I could tell that the cases had taken a real beating at the hands of handlers and the contents always made it in one piece.

I highly recommend them.

I have Pelican and Star but if buying another it would be the Storm, latches are much more user friendly)

I have also used the Pelican cases for years for everything from electronics to firearms as a cop, and for personal use. I can tell you that while they are pricey they are wonderful...,but heavy)

Having had a Pelican for a lot of years, I would try the Storm. When I was travelling a lot on the airlines to matches, I used to go through at least one Pelican a year. I never had a gun damaged, but they always managed to break a chunk of it off. I never had a problem getting it replaced, however. I don't think the Storm would be any better in that regard, but it would be a lot lighter.

Either one is better than an aluminum case. Teammates that had those for travelling would have them bent all to hell by the airlines, including having latches broken off. The airlines just considered it "normal wear and tear."

You should also consider the SKB cases. I bought the two-gun case with the divider and have been very happy with it. It's really light and very tough. It's just not airtight like the Storm or Pelican.

I've used smaller Pelican cases at work for scientific equipment and they are extremely good cases. When I had my 1000yd. rifle built a couple of years ago, I bought a Storm. I'd buy another one in a heartbeat, they are "bullet-proof",pun intended) and I think more user friendly than the pelican.........Bob.

Starlight cases are made right here in the good old North Carolina USA. They stand behind their cases 100% if the airline breaks it they'll replace it or whatever part that broke free of charge. I've only ever had two latches break and they sent me new one as soon as I called them. No charge. Brack Wilson is a stand up guy to deal with.
As to the fingernail busting just go to Wally World get one of those coated hooks to hang bicycles with, pops those hinges open without a hitch. I took a one inch piece of dowel and even made a handle for it. Just don't try putting it in your carry-on luggage.

I have Storm and SKB, and have used Pelican; I think the Storm and Pelican are of equal quality and construction,a step above the SKB), although I've never done any destructive testing, intentional or unintentional) - other then dropping any of them. The Storm is much easier to open the latches.

+ 3 on the starlight. A friend bought the SKB, and it seems like a very well built product.
