Pdogs all over

Wyoming out of Cheyenne
Great area 5spd. About 10 yrs ago l had two days of Heaven shooting prairie dogs near Cheyenne. Twas a Quickie CHUUT for me. Working Monday thru Thursday gave a 3 day weekend. Fly out Friday. Chuut PDS Sat, Sun. Fly home Monday.. l'd get ''sick'' sometime on Mondays during Prairie Dog Season. Flew into Denver on an early flight. Rented a car and headed to Cheyenne. Checking in to the motel l always tried meeting my guide the day before the CHUUT. Sat morning guide picks me up and off we go. Great day shooting Saturday. Almost too good in fact. l went thru most of the 300rds of 223s l had brought from home. A problem? YES!! A good problem l might add. l did some frantic ammo shopping Sat evening. Sure love those long June summer days in Wyo. Everyone seemed to have run out of 223s too. l finally scored a 200rd Value Pack of 45gr Winchester JHP. @ 3600fps its good ammo!! Only Wal Mart l have ever seen with a reloading section. Sunday was GOOD CHUUTN too. Almost ran out AGAIN. I had a good guide, tipped him well too. l felt a bit sorry because he had just quit a job of 4 years with Freedom Arms @$8.00hr. Like Daddy used to say, ''lf l'm going to starve it'll be at home, NOT on the job''

I took both sons in law and grandson p/dogging. Prior to going they had to “affirm” (swear an oath) NOT to tell anybody where we went. When they were asked (by their wives and friends) they just gave the state....really ticked them off....
I have friends that also shoot in the same state; we have a gentleman’s agreement, we never ask each other EXACTLY where, not even North , South, East, or West......that’s a reason we’re still great friends...and share loading data, Primers, powder, and bullets.

Hey “282”,
Great trip. Check with your airlines, last I heard you can check up to 50 lbs of ammo within the 48 states. I worked in Billings for a month, took 2 bricks of .17HMR and my CZ; went in heavy and came home light...

50 POUNDS of ammo!! WOW! Thats close FIFTEEN HUNDRED 223s... Likely melt the ole barrel before running out of ammo:)

FIL and I would have run into a problem on a trip to Nebraska with the 50 pound ammo limit. Pretty sure that we had pretty close to 5000 rounds for 17 rifles on that trips. After 3 and 1/2 days of dawn to dark shooting and close to 3500 rounds shot, we were done. The rancher begged us to stay another day as we met him at the pasture gate as the sun was setting. Got into one pasture that hadn't been shot for several years. Lord, that was good shooting. I do know that the vehicle was considerable lighter on the way home.

4 days (giving extra time here) @ 12 hours per day total = 48 hours
48 hrs x 60 minutes =2880 minutes
2880 minutes x 60 seconds = 172,800 seconds
172,800 divided by 3500 rounds fired = 1 shot every 49 seconds

If my math is wrong, please correct me.

Making my self a note, to never loan you any of my rifles.

When a friend and i went elk hunting we stayed a night in the La Quinta inn in Aroura CO. The best prairie dog field Ive ever seen was the 50 acres out bad of the Inn. But i bet the other guest would have not been too happy if we shot them off the balcony. I thought that i might be a little over gunned with the 338 win mag.

I flew into Denver back in June '19 on a vacation trip with wife and another couple, on the drive up to Estes Park, I saw hundreds of pdogs along the interstate. I was just wishin' I had one of my Mk4's with me for some target practice. Not sure how all the other people stuck in a traffic jam would have felt but I would have enjoyed the "wait" a lot more. LOL

Last time I flew it was 10 lbs of ammo, which adds up fast.
I have shipped ammo & hunting gear to myself c/o the hotel.
