That's some fine shooting!
Team-Paul-Phillips.jpgThe Global Precision Group (GPG) team members include Mark Lonsdale, internationally ranked shooter, Derek Rodgers, reigning FTR World Champion and Phillips, reigning NRA ELR National Champion. The 3.4-mile shot hit a 32” x 48” target and took 17 seconds to report. It required 625 MOA of elevation from a 100 yard zero. Phillips’ rifle is chambered in .416 Barrett, using VithaVuori 20N29 powder topped off with a 550-grain Cutting Edge laser bullet running 3,000 FPS.

I could do it too and prove it with my trusty .308. Only I'd could hit the bullseye every time. How might you ask ... before calling me a few choice words? I'd have a man stationed about 5,900 yards downrange (behind a barrier) with his phone on listening. He'd wait 16 seconds after he heard my shot and then fire on the target. No one could see or hear him at that distance. BULLSEYE time after time! And I'd be a hero! Old guys like me are sneaky, know how to cheat, and maybe dream too much!

There are 3 holes in that target and the bullets may have been tumbling from the looks of them. To hit that more than once is almost unbelievable. Congratulations to Phillips and his team!

How many shots to get there ?

Forum Boss: I believe it took 22 rounds to achieve the hit:

See: At the McMillan booth, members of the Global Precision Group (GPG) Team showcased an impressive .416 Barrett ELR rifle. Team leader Paul Phillips explained how the team managed (on the 22nd shot) to hit a 48″x32″ target at the incredible distance of 6012 yards. Our friend Derek Rodgers, reigning F-TR World Champion, told us that this shows how the ELR sport has evolved. The rifle features a McMillan ELR Beast stock with a Bartlein Barrel on a massive BAT 50 action. The .416 Barrett rounds were loaded with 550 grain Cutting Edge bullets.

Excellent water line. :)
That 3 - 9 looks like about 28-30" spread. Definitely doing a lot right... Kudos

what scope was used to enable the shooter to see that dinky target at 3.4 miles
like to see a closeup of the scope mounts

625 moa 1 moa at one hundred yards aprox 1 inch 625 moa divided by 12 equals 55 feet
at 500 yds, that is 275 feet?????
am I figuring this correctly?????

ok I see the optics stuff on there now. what power scope???
magnification must be boosted by the same optics stuff

Paul used a NF ATACR 7-35x56mm power scope, Tacom Charlie (Elevation adjustment of 500 MOA) and Tacom Delta (offset to see around the barrel), no additional magnification. According to Paul, he chose that scope because of it's high elevation adjustment range of 100 MOA.

It's impressive I guess that it was done, but IMHO I think it would be more interesting for these ELR guys to start setting up at 2000-3000 yards and cold bore hitting deer size targets. I would be more impressed with a cold bore shot at 3000 yards on a 15" gong VS a 6000 yard hit after 20 sighters.

Help me out here guys. What's the point? Twenty two shots sounds to me like the guy at the carnival who spends fifty bucks at the baseball booth throwing enough times at the kewpie dolls to finally get enough hits to win a five dollar stuffed animal. I don't call it shooting. I call it lobbing. YMMV.
