Pascagoula, MS update

The news from the Pascagoula Shooting Club is that they have received 6 new Shot Marker electronic targets, increasing the total available to 12. At next month's F-Class match (10/24) they also hope to have one or two targets set up at 1000 yds.

I looked at the Pascagoula web site to see if y'all had across the course matches as I had attended several Mississippi State championships there and enjoyed shooting there but didn't see any. Are y'all planning on bringing back across the course high power matches again?

to my knowledge, no. right now we are just shooting the 600/1k yard fclass and br. some steel but nothing formal. I used to REALLY enjoy the across the course matches(service rifle was still ONLY open sights). offhand was VERY HUMBLINGo_O. anyway, there you go, my .02. oh yeah, we also shoot 22 silhouettes and some of us may be getting a 100/200 yard br match going, informal of course. and there is a black powder silhouette match too, heck I don't know what all they shoot out there, just the stuff I shoot in, im sorry :(

No. Although the Pascagoula range was built by and for NMC shooters, they no longer hold across-the-course matches. More's the pity. There's a long story there which I don't care to share.

On a brighter note, today we calibrated the 6 new electronic targets and the slab was poured for the 1000 yd pits.

That is a shame. I attended several Mississippi State High Power championships in the early 2000's. Always a fun match. Got my first leg points there and would be the only open sight shooter when they had a any/any prone match after the EIC match. Maybe again some day.

I'd like to emphasize the word "hope". As you can see, the 1000 yd slab is fresh poured. The target carriers still remain to be rehabilitated and installed.

At today's F-Class match, there were two targets operating at 1000 yds. Only one shooter shot the entire match at 1000. Several, shot on 1000 to check their sighting. Two more target carriers are positioned ready for installation. There may, possibly, be four 1000 yd targets operating at the next match, which is Dec 19th.

Shooters choice in distance for each match? If so, that’s very nice
Yes. One firing line, two sets of targets. Some shrubbery needs to be removed to clear up some of the 1000 yd targets. It's a work in progress.

I tried my hand at 1000 yds and couldn't get on target. It may have been that my .308" 155 gn bullets just weren't staying supersonic at 1000. The Shot Marker system requires a supersonic bullet to register. I have to study on it a bit.
