Parts gun 6BR

Last fall I bought a laminated BVSS Savage stock from a guy off here. It was part of a package that the seller didn't really want to split up so I bought it all. The stock, a 28" Criterion full bull in 6mmBR Norma, a Wilson inline seater & Wilson sizing die plus a Redding 6mmBR body die and 47 pieces of Lapua brass.

I almost sold the barrel off right away but got that old nagging feeling I would probably regret it so I kept it all.

A couple weeks ago I bought an old (70's) Savage 112 single shot J series in 220 Swift. I took the swift barrel off and spun the 6mmBR on, cleaned up the old 112 action with 40 years of grease and crud in the bolt.

Ran a powder test today with 28.4 - 30.2 g Varget with CCI 450's and 105 berger HVLDs. First time shooting the rifle today 2* F

I'm hooked! 28.4 was about .6 everything else out through 29.4 was less than .5 29.9, 30 & 30.2 were less than .3 with 30.2 @ .230!

I have accumulated lots of Savage parts, a long action and a 4.4 short. All sorts of stocks and most important of all lots of custom bull barrels. Well one barrel is slightly under a Varmint,,a Eabco accuracy barrel, one check of a shooter. The barrels interchange to both actions. I have shilens, Krieger, McGowan and bartlien and last but not least a ER Shaw SS Varmint .308 which is very accurate for the cartridge, sub 1/2 moa. The ones that average down to 1/4 moa I blame on the cartridge like 6 BR and 6 Dasher. My bvss stock is long action and one of my favorites, it just feels awesome behind it. My other favorite is the b&c tactical Varmint. It's fun and quick to configure any style rifle and cartridge for my intended use.I even have .223 size bolt heads I can change in minutes.

@DanSavage we sound a lot alike. I'm a Savage hoarder myself. Barrels, stocks, actions etc. I just keep buying them then reconfiguring them to my current likes.

I've lost count, right now I'm looking for a stock for a new in the box 112 single shot. Waiting on a flat back rail, already screwed a 28" Shilen Select Match full bull 6.5x47L on it that's one of my best tubes. Have a couple actions that SSS did for me also and quite a few others that seemed good enough.

So many rifles, so little time. LOL

I use accu trigger for hunting and for competition the rifle basic comp 2

rifle basic is outstanding when you follow the CD directions to the T, mine is set at 2.8 oz. Not quite as touchy as the Jewell 2 oz. on my Stolle Panda LOL.

It's way too cold to be testing and a little breeze made it even worse. But I had to go shoot it again.

Backed up to 200 yards because it shot so small at 100 and went into the lands.

Think I'll try a set away from the lands to see if the seating depth node is wider there then tune powder.

My two Savage 6BRs like 30gr of Varget with that bullet.......looks like yours does too.

Sometimes it pays to hold on to stuff doesn't it?

Yes it does.

I'm not quite there yet. 2876 fps with 9.4 sd 19 es
I'm running a set away from the lands to see if I can find a wider seating depth node then I'll tune the powder by .1s I'm thinking it needs needs a little less to be "tuned"

went from .003 off to .024 off this afternoon @ 200, the target dots here are 2" making the groups look smaller. I think the .003 out to .008 in look better in the other post above.

This pic is the same as above but shows it in the middle. -.006 through -.015 I'd probably load -.010 if I was wanting to be off the lands VS in.

mine likes 105 berger hybrid. 005 off 30gr varget br4. sold it just recently

Warmed up to 10 yesterday so I had to go shoot it again.

Chrono'd 3 each from 29.8 through 30.4 plus an extra 3 @ 30.2 and 5 factory Lapua 105s LOL

30.3 had one round that was just starting to get bolt lift. 30.4 all three had a little lift.

The SD/ ES winner (SD 2 ES 4) was 29.9 @ 2896 and it seems to want to shoot between -.003 & +.005

I may try a different primer or two some of the groups look a little on the erratic side. These are at 200 yards.
