Panda actions now available w/a sako extractor

Just an FYI,
I ordered a bolt from Kelblys with the intention of having Alex Wheeler install a sako extractor but Ian told me they would do it. Got the bolt in a few weeks later and it looks and functions great. A couple days later Jim announced over on BR central that they’re now including that as an option on their panda actions. I know that’s been one deciding factor on why some people went with another action for their build so I thought this was great news.

I shot all last year with my RBLPRE sako extractor Panda 6PPC and absolutely love it.

I think the panda is like my grizzly. Sliding plate type extractor.

Edit to add pictures.

Sliding plate.

Thanks much. Sorry for so many questions, but why is the Sako more desirable than the sliding plate?

My bolts from kelbly have the "tg" style ejector, which mechanically ejects when you pull the bolt back and it hits a plunger on the bolt release.(not a spring loaded ejector) They also all have the sliding plate extractors. The pair has been working very well for me with 6br-improved and dasher cases. And also I just got a barrel set up in 6.5 and it seems to work with them as well.

I am a pretty big fan of the "tg" ejector.

Thanks much for the education. I have a Panda with no ejector that I'm pleased with. Was thinking on getting another with an ejector and wanted to understand any issues.

Some don’t like the TG because it’s only as consistent as you are when pulling the bolt back. If you get a little excited you may throw one off the table. I’ve read the other ejector wasn’t as reliable with a ppc case. My sako has been 100% reliable and puts the empties in the same spot no matter how hard I open the bolt.

Dont confuse the ejector with the extractor. The sako and sliding plate are extractors. The ejector is typically a spring loaded plunger. But kelbly has the option to use the "tg" style that is mechanical and doesn't put any pressure on the case when you close the bolt. And you get in a pretty good rythem once you learn to use the "tg" style. Right, wrong or indifferent, I wouldn't want any other style ejector.

And kelblys sliding plate extractor hasnt given me any issues. But I've heard of others mentioning occasional issues. (Though not extremely common) But they may have a spring plunger type ejector, I didnt ask.

I think I got it (maybe). I have a panda with an extractor (pulls the case) but no ejector (have to pick the fired case out). I'm wanting one with an ejector (throws the fired cases out), but it sounds like now either the sliding plate or the Sako type extractor is available. Maybe I am confused:(

A sliding plate extractor throws the case out level with the port, a sako has an upward angle to the ejection. The difference when used with a spring loaded plunger is the plate will drop short cases in the action while the sako will eject reliably. It has to do with ejection angle and unloading of the ejector spring. You can add ejector protrusion to help the plate style but then there goes your smooth bolt close.

You got it. When you get an ejector put in you shouldn't have to do anything to the extractor. But if you wanted a different type of extractor, it would be good to get them done at the same time. So the angles can be optimized. Hope that helps
