Painting Fiberglass stocks

I just acquired a new rifle for my son, and I want change the stock color.
I believe it is a McMillian style stock that was molded with the colors in it.

Can this be sanded and then painted/clear coated?
Or am I better off leaving it as is?

It's a matter of taste.
If you REALLY want to change the color, sand it, fill voids if there are any and have at it.

Now, CJ6, you can't just paint yourself; you'd stand out in a crowd. And, I do like the Hydro-dip. I have a couple that were done and they are outstanding. One thing to remember is weight, if you are planning on using this in registered matches.

How do the hydro dips track? Do they move smoothly in the bags? Or it that just a matter of the clear coating I would put over the dip?

I do like the dip... I have a 300 blackout dipped.

Wether it is painted or dipped just put stock tape on it and it will track just like any other rifle. Fiberglass stocks can be painted just like wood or metal, it's the same process just sand, prime, sand then paint.

Sure can paint them and cleared,I just had a friend do two of mine he painted a camo pattern on them, not dipped.

Remember- after sanding, prime the stock. DuPont 7220 self etching primer seems to work well on fiberglass. Talk to body shop guys who paint Corvettes after they fix a damaged area. Ask them also what kind of paint to use. Not everything is compatible with the fiberglass.
Just a thought

Take it to a custom bike painter and let him do his thing.
Not my style but the customer loved it.

Look up this company's web site!
Black Ice. Com hydo dip and clear coat for a reasoable price! Less than $150.00

Be sure if you take it to a painter they degrease it verrry good. Theres millions of pinholes in the surface and they are filled with mold release. I always scrubbed them with a tire brush and bleach before i did anything to em. Then degrease normally but treat like a corvette. If they dont know what to do then theyll pull their hair out
