Painting a receiver

Wolfdawg

Gold $$ Contributor
I was thinking about painting my Remington receiver to match my stock color.

Any suggestions?

I bought a can of Krylon metalic and some Krylon grey primer. Will this work?

Any ideas?

I have been using the Brownells Gun Coat . It is the one that you cook in a oven to cure it . It will stay on alot better than Krylon !! They have alot of differant colors to chose from just bead blast paint and cook and it looks like new .

Try DuraCoat, just degrease, scuff with red scotchbrite pad, degrease, paint. Very tough and resistant to solvents. Comes in any color. Apply with air brush, or auto touch up gun, both cheap from Harbor Freight.

Best prices from Brownells and Midway.

I apply cerokote air dry and bake on both are by far tougher than the gunkote stuff I've tried in the past.

I don't paint many receivers and have only used Gun Kote. What I have noticed is that some colors are more durable than others. I've had 3 different cans of flat black and none of them held up as well as OD Green or Matte Dark Earth. No idea why this would be, but I'm gonna give something else a try next time.

Check out this web site They have air dry and bake on ceramic based paints. Lots of colors too.
