Pacific tool remington bolt?

Off hand does anyone know what a ready to go remington short action bolt from Pacific tool cost with all the bells and whistles? Also does it need to be lapped and can this be done without lathes or milling machines?
I'm thinking of rebarreling that tooth filling jarring 30-338 short action 40x to something small like 223 or one of the 6mm's. It weighs 18 pounds right now but 210 grain vld's traveling over 3000 fps will let you know if you shot or not.
I was thinking 300wsm's or even a 7mm/300wsm but I want something that doesn't foul out after a dozen or so shots. That can be a pain in f-class.
Also I have read some of the guys switch barreling on savages but what about on the remmy's can you just get a pac-nor barrel and a sammi gauge and do the same setting head space without the barrel nut or should I try a barrel nut if they even make one?
Be gentle, I just got off night shift and haven't been to bed yet.
Thanks,
Steve

Steve,
A PT&G bolt is not a drop in replacement part as the lugs are +.022" longer than a Remington,& requires machine work to fit/headspace.

PacNor makes a nut for the Remingtons. You can buy just the nut or order a bbl from them set up for the nut and fully chambered. The pic below is of my 40x rimfire with the Pacnor nut.

Dan, would the PTG bolt work as is if you were doing a rebbl?

rayjay,
The +.022" bolt lug thickness,.462") on a PT&G bolt would work on a rebarrel,if the handle was timed accordingly.

Afd end of handle would require facing to allow for proper F/Pin&Shroud timing also.

Or,the lug buttresses in the front receiver ring could be set back .022" to allow for drop in replacement.

For now I think I will just convert my current bolt to a Savage bolt head. If it works out good maybe I will send it to Dan for a new handle :)

It's strictly a custom job. I am hoping that PTG will start making their bolt bodies set up for this conversion.

Salvage bolt heads are available from MidwayUSA for approximately thirty bucks + ejector/extractor & springs/ball.

Indicate Rem Bolt, part, face,c'bore, drill & bore/ream cross pin hole & the interchangeable bolt head job is basically complete.

So you can take the remmy bolt apart, and put a savage bolt head in it's place with some minor machining?
Is there a bolt sleeve that the firing pin assembly screws into that you would need for the savage bolthead or does the savage bolthead include a bolt to screw the firing pin assembly into it?
I couldn't tell on midways page, I pulled a search on savage bolt and on the third page it had the bolt heads on it.
Man this would be cool and save me a few dollars on this project.

...and..... ream Savage firing pin hole diameter to Rem,shorten Savage BH stem to fit length of Rem firing pin, turn rem firing pin down to fit diameter of Savage cross pin opening, turn shoulder back on Rem firing pin to adjust for firing pin protrusion, grind slot in Savage BH and baffle to accommodate Rem action.....send to Dan to get a handle welded on........ Its much easier to buy another bolt, trust me.

Yes, it's a bit of work. If we can get Dave Kiff to make bolt bodies and firing pins then it becomes a piece of cake. For a later action you would need to add the guide slot to the Savage bolt head and baffle.

spook,
The Rem bolts,3)that I modified years ago,I parted the Rem bolts,L/A,S/A,XP) off just behind the lugs, then fit the Savage B/H-

When I wanted a Rem bolt I would send the 40X/700/XP-100/Seven Bbl'd action back to Ilion,N.Y. & state that I lost the bolt assy & needed a replacement-easy $125 option.
I don't know what they get today for a replacement bolt assy-$200??

Then of course,I'd remove the handles & TIG weld it on the replacement bolt assy-

Switch Bbl,switch bolt 40X's/700's/XP-100's/Seven's galore.
