pac-nor or shilen for short range accuracy

Not wanting to start "any" arguments about this is beter than yours. My question is about my barrel and twist selection for my 6mm br savage project. I'm wanting nothing but 100-300yd. accuracy period. Are the lighter bullets,up to 80gr.) more accurate than the heavier ones,up to 105's) at ranges from 100-300yds. It's obviously a twist question. Are the lighter more accurate with a 12 or 14 twist than the heavys with an 8 twist. I'm wanting the most accurate for this range. Also what is the preference of barrel for savage, pac-nor or shillen??

I have had several Pac-Nors on my Savages. Pleased with them all. My last two 6mm were 8 twist super-match 3 groove heavy palma. My current 6.5 is the same but a 5 groove.

The 6mm's shot the 107's and 105's great, never tried anything any lighter. I shoot that gun at 600 and 1000 yards only...

I would suggest a 14 twist for your needs. All the current 100-300 yd. BR records have been set with the 6PPC and 13.5-14 twist bbls. Bullets from 65-75 gr will probably serve you best.
As for barrel makers, there are many good barrels available to us today. Check out the match reports and equipment lists in Precision Shooting magazine or on the IBS website. Good Luck with your project.

I have a 12 twist Pac Nor on my 6mm BR walking varminter.
It shoots 55 Blitzkings and 58 VMaxs into .2-.3 groups. I had PacNor do the complete barrel job.

I can't say a Shilen wouldn't work as well but I am very pleased with what I got from PacNor and would go back to them again. However, a great number of PA woodchucks are displeased!!!

My most accurate barrels,5) are PacNor followed closely by Brux. I've been to PacNor's shop in Brookings....The place is so clean you could lick the floor and it would act as a breath freshener. Penny, Casey and Tom can answer,or get answered) any barrel question you could possibly come up with. I never hesitate to recomend them.

Pac-Nor has always done right by me many times.
I have other barrels,Shilen, Hart, Lilja) and the Pac-Nor's shoot as good as any of them.

Me as well.
Absolutly, great barrel makers!

Pick a barrelmaker and go.......

If ya plan on stay'n inside of 500 meters, then I'd say 1-14...
Though a 1-12 would allow you to shoot up to 85gr and maby the 90's which at 300,400,500+ may give ya bit more wind bucking ability .....

Think you'll be pleased.

For use on a Savage I'd say you are safe with any of the big names..I have a Hart rebarreled 6mmbr on reminton action....I did a Savage with a used Pac-nor 6.5 x 284 it can shoot !!.Pac-nor Did A Sako for me I'm pleased with...I had a Shilen 6mm with a twelve twist That was positively boring to shoot & load for..But Way too heavy to hunt with..I'd call each of them to find out who could deliver first & fastest..The big boys are all pretty good..mike in ct
