Oversized barrel?

I just cut the throat in a 5r 30 cal barrel from Benchmark. The bushing size was a .3006" which is the largest I had. I can still see the lands in the freebore section, the reamer did not cut to the bottom of the grooves. The reamer does measure .3086". Anyone else run into this?

Are you using a throating reamer? UNI throater? Maybe the reamer freebore diameter is not what its marked?

Its a regular chamber reamer and it measures .3086 in the freebore section. The reamer did not do this in a Krieger 4 groove.

Even a beautifully machined barrel can be bad even tho its hard to admit sometimes. If its oversized it may just need to be called bad. Benchmark seems like a very straight company you may want to give em a call and see how they feel about it

What is the bore size on the benchmark supposed to be? Isn't common bore diameters run .306-.308? Is the lands faint or pretty pronounced? Call them like Dusty said. With a FB diameter of .3086, I would think it would wipe them out.

If you have the ability to do so, I would suggest slugging the barrel. It will eliminate any guess work regarding the dimensions of the barrel.

Well, since this was a personal barrel I did take take it out and shoot it. So far there are no fouling issues and it looks like it will shoot. I was just curious if others have seen this or if it is common. I may give them a call on it, but at the moment I see no reason to replace it.
