Over bore 22 cal bullet, what do you use.

Just my experience, but I personally would stick with a plastic tipped bullet for long range coyotes. I have had a few VLD type bullets just zip through with zero expansion. Generally speaking I am running a .22BR and a 6 Dasher, so not nearly the speeds Alf is getting. No matter the speed, the plastic tips always expand. Just something to be aware of.

@nakneker alf helped me in the beginning too, with my 22x47. He’s always willing to help.

But, the 80.5 does a lot more damage than the photos posted above. It made me get away from big 22s altogether, but if it’s damage you want, that’s the way to go.

I think the accuracy is a wash between the 80 and 80.5, but I do like that there’s an option that won’t knock limbs off. I don’t save coyote fur, but that 80.5 meant coyotes and coyotes only. I passed up anything else. I’m much happier using a 6 BR with 68s, but you’ve got plenty of those.

I don't think there's a problem at 1.870", especially when you set the calipers to .010" and look at it in the light.

I have always struggled somewhat in getting Noslers to shoot the way I wanted them to shoot. The one exception was when I shot Nosler CC 80 gr. bullets. The rifle was built by Zack and had a 1:8 twist barrel. I ended up selling it back to Zack as I went off on a different tangent. Oh, how many times I wish I had kept it.

I know you had one built too, read your thread, lots of good info there.

Me and Alf both really enjoy the 6.5x47 case, I’ve always enjoyed his posts on his rifles based on it. I have a 25x47, had a 6x47 and 6.5x47, the only disadvantage I see with the 22x47 vs the creed is proper head stamped brass and a slight powder capacity reduction. I have to double check every time I grab the 25x47 and make sure it’s the correct ammo, it’s plainly labeled as such but I still double check, mistakes happen. So the correct headstamp would be nice. That being said I keep coming back to the 22x47 - I guess a guy could build one of each and compare notes and keep the one he liked best. There’s really not enough difference to worry it much though.

I like what Paul said above about plastic tipped bullets, I use them in the vast majority of my varmint rigs. These 80 grain Bergers seem to get the job done though, I’ll start there, a guy can always make a switch if he’s experiencing fail to perform episodes. (no jokes please, lol)

I never save the fur unless fur prices are high, the only chance you take is the occasional bobcat that is wearing hide that is actually worth messing with. I’ve lost a few of those due to over performance, they have thin skin anyways and can make a mess but that’s rare, most of the time it’s coyotes and the occasional fox, neither of which bring enough money to make me start keeping the fur.

Zack speaks highly of the 22 creed, he’s built a few and says guys love them, I’m pretty sure he owns one himself too.

I've shot a lot of coyotes with Berger75gr VLD from a 22-6mm and you are correct, they don't always expand. I've shot some that left holes in the side you could stick your fist through while others just kind of zipped right through. They've always resulted in a dead coyote but that bullet doesn't always do the same thing. I don't save hides so the bigger and messier the hole the better I like it and plastic tipped bullets tend to provide that better for me.

I'm a big fan of the 22-250 and the 22 Creedmoor is near the same as a 22-250 Improved but without the extra work so I don't think you can ever go wrong with a 22CM.

Top shelf brass is easy to get in both SRP and LRP and is a straight neck down or you can even get Alpha 22CM brass that is ready to go.

If I were to build a new rig today, strictly for long range coyotes, it would be a
.22 x47 Lapua very similar to Alfs. I always enjoy his stories about his coyote adventures. I have a 6 x 47 Lapua and this brass most certainly is very, very tough as my load is a little on the nuclear side as the barrel has sped up. Time to back it down a little. Happy snipping!

Update, just ordered the reamer above, thanks again Alf! Traded a rifle this last week for a new Defiance Tenacity, gonna go with a 20” proof, 1-8 twist, threaded for a suppressor, McMillan Game hunter. I‘lol check with Zack and get his thoughts on bottom metal etc etc. Thanks for the input guys! It helps.

I’m gonna try the 80 grain Bergers with this rifle, if they shoot I’ll stick with them unless I have a bad experience but I doubt that happens.

I’ve debated between the 22x47 and the 22 Creed for the last week and I’ll probably build a Creed too sometime soon. Different kind of build though, 24” barrel, different stock BDL metal.

Excellent move & a solid choice, hope my bias isn't showing.......;)

I thought I had released my print to the public, but wasn't sure.

I've shot enough coyotes with the 80 VLD to have a lot of confidence in them, plus I point them too.

That appears to be nearly identical to the 22 Satan Mk II

I think you did, when I talked to them they hesitated for a bit and then came back in the phone and said “we’re good”, probably read a note on the account that you had released it. Thanks again Alf!
