It's there...provided you can get the powder in the case. But there's ways to accomplish that. What gets in the way is the practicality of doing that in a tournament setting when you're loading between relays. Of course, where the base of the bullet ends up in the neck matters more than a little. The 'long neck' 30BRs (1.540-ish) give a little extra volume over the 1.500-ish versions. How many of you guys have found a good tune over 34.5 gr H4198 in your 30BR under a 118 bullet?
You can also stretch out a spring and put it in the drop tube...the powder swirls around the spring and slows down before it drops into the case. -Al
Is 31.2 H4198 a error? At 34.5 i'm setting 1/2 way up the neck. I have been up to 34.8 with no hard bolt lift. But the accuracy didn't get any better.Al I don't know how you do it, with 31.2 I'm sitting right at the neck shoulder junction using a drop tube. I seat .005 off the lands with good accuracy,
Something doesn't sound kosher. Your 34.5 half up the neck is pretty spot on. In all my 30BR stuff through the years (Lapua cases), 32.5 is right at the bottom of the neck.Is 31.2 H4198 a error? You can't compare case fill between H4198 and IMR4198. The IMR 'sticks' are considerably longer than Hodgden H4198. -AlIts kosher I'm using the other Hogdon,=IMR.
Yes....IMR4198 can shoot very well in a 30BR. The velocity is a bit lower, is all. Sounds like it's working great for you.I've also been told that the IMR version won't have the muzzle velocity of not work in the 30br, but dang 5 in a ragged hole, using a brand new Hart barrel sure looks pretty good to me at 100 yards.
