Outside neck turn with Forster classic trimmer?

I didn't even know this was possible when I bought the tool. Does anybody neck turn with theirs, and if so does it work ok?

I was going to buy a dedicated turner, but I really won't need to do it much, and I don't shoot competitively (except with myself and friends).

About 30 years ago when I bought mine, that was one of the few outside neck turners available to the non-machinist. It worked great for the relatively small volume of cases I was loading. I would buy and process 200 rounds of brass at a time for each caliber I was shooting.

I think there are units that are easier to set up and use available today...but not sure if the the new ones are any more precise.

I have several that are permanently set up as neck lathes. I drive them with a 1/4" drill and they make perfect necks, with no run-out.

you may be able to get good results but it is a lot harder to get good results with. there are other available options like the 21st century Turner that use a much better cutting design. the Forster is a screw with a sharpened edge. when you adjust it the cutter turns. when I got it adjusted to the correct thickness I wanted it was perpindicular to the neck essentially cutting like. 003 of the neck at a time. making it very hard to turn the neck smoothly and not thread the neck. the 21st uses a cutter that angles with the shoulder of the case and a wide flat cutter that eliminates the possibility of leaving parts of the neck unturned. I would advise u not waste your time.
