Ordering a 40xb...

I called remington, left a message with the custom shop a few days ago but I haven't had a reply yet. So I'll ask on here and see if someone can answer these questions.

1. It only lists three twist rates for the 6br and I want a 8 twist. Will they barrel it with the twist I want or am i limited to what's listed.

2. Cost. Iam wanting a stainless 40xb, is there a base msrp? Iam sure sky's the limit but Iam totally in the dark with no idea what to expect.

3. Other than going through my dealer to order this what are the steps? Printable build sheet? Or first discuss with the custom shop then have the dealer to the ffl part?

Are you looking for a Single shot(XBBR) or Repeater(XB)?

Order by product number(5-6 digit)thru your dealer.
I believe the 1:8" twist 6mmBR & 260 Rem went out of production several years ago.

Any "special orders" are dropped at years end.

No build sheet-they assemble only what is listed on the web page.

Ok well that will cancel that idea, I really wanted a nice factory 6br set up so
I could stay in the factory stock class at a local match. I guess I may have to look into the savage now.

I was looking for a single shot.

God forbid you get a savage :o better off with a good slingshot ;D

Some ranges make the Factory 40x 6br's shoot in the custom class anyway, [check the rules] , so it might be a good idea to look for a custom 6br. Get dies, brass, and bullets and powder and primers on order now. Good luck !

Bad idea on the savage?? I haven't read a lot of negative on them. But I guess for the $1300-$1400 the savage costs I could be well on the way to a custom set up.

quit dreaming and get a used "B"enchrest rifle ,,,,it will save many days/years of flustration and make shooting fun rather than a wrestle mania with inferior equipment,,,,,,,Roger

At what distance are your local factory class matches shot? If 300 yards or less, you might try to hunt down a used Sako 6PPC single shot, assuming that they are legal under your rules.

With in a hr there are two. 100,200 and 600. And then once a year we have a 100,300, and 500 prone match. I might hit a 600 yard match a time or two a year but the once a year match has the "factory" class Iam interested in. I don't want to waste any time and money on the savage if its junk.

Hgsr,
I'd purchase a 40XB CrMo Single Shot in 6mmBR w/what ever twist Bbl ...shot the Bbl out & re-barrel w/ the Bbl twist of choice before the thought of a floating bolt head,FUGLY Bbl Nut & POS trigger groups of a SALVAGE.

I'd revert back to muzzle loaders/sticks w/ strings & arrows or spears before a SALVAGE !!

Salvage.... Lol.

I guess savage used the lip stick on a pig trick on this benchrest line.

I had a feeling of to good to true.

Oh ya this should be good. Im going to get a bowl of Popcorn and a soda to watch the fireworks now.... Way to go Dan....

(PS I like the 6PPC Sako ROute)

Russ-
Thought I'd throw that out there to knot up someone's panties !!

Heck,I'd rather shoot an Uger 77 investment cast POS or sloppier than a whore in church Win 70 CRF before shooting a SALVAGE !

The problem with factory rifle shoots is that the "factory" rifles end up being "Not So Factory".
Also, to learn how to become a contender in competition, you need a rifle that is a consistent performer so you will know how conditions affect the bullet.......meaning a custom action will greatly increase your odds to get there.
With-in 2 hours of your location there are more than a dozen Registered IBS Score Matches where you can learn from experienced competitors and if successful can earn shooter points that are listed in a national ranking. You will have the opportunity to break records that have been kept since the 1970's. The shoots are conducted in fair competition in a safe environment. The best way to shorten the learning curve is to compete alongside those in the next skill level, many of whom are willing to help you progress.

Dan,
Think you are mixing metaphors there.
Nervous a whore in church.
Sloppier than a soup sandwich. :-)

Ha...

Boogers on you!!

I have a South Carolina M-70 Featherweight an' it ain't no loose whore in church... she is as tight as a virgin, and beautiful with AAA presentation wood.

I never like the "factory class" shoots locally because only a couple of rifles dominated. It was started by the people that had them.
