Ordered New Lathe

It was suggested that I post this in this forum sub-group as well.

I have ordered a new lathe. An Acra 1740TVS-3. The bad news is I'm going from BXA to CXA. I have A LOT of holders, and 2 different quick release tool posts. One is an Aloris, and the other is a knock-off. I'll also be going from a MT-3 to an MT-4...
So.......... I will be selling my EISEN 1440EV Precision Lathe and MANY accessories for it. I'm thinking of offering everything as a package deal at first, (read that again) so basically someone can get pretty much everything they need, minus tools and inserts, for about the price of the machine alone - Not too sure what that will be yet.
The lathe is only a couple years old and works flawlessly, now... I posted a vid not too long ago on taking an alignment cut on it recently. I only had ~0.0001 deviation over 10" taking 5 thou cuts.

More to come in the near future.

If you know anyone looking for a Taiwanese variable speed 14x40 let them know please.

I am not selling anything right now - I am still currently using it for my gunsmithing business.
 
Are you equipped to handle 4500 pounds? I remember the issues you had moving a 1800 pound machine. The bigger machines are a little clumsy to operate when you are used to a 14.

Right? Having a millwright do this one. Delivery and setup.
Edit: Correction - Current lathe is about 2700lbs

Congrats on the new lathe you have coming. Having that large bore through the spindle would be handy sometimes. And the weight is good. My RML-1440 has what appears to be the same or similar gear change levers, but only has a little over 2” through the spindle.

And although the motor is capable of 10hp, I can’t imagine taking a cut heavy enough to use more than half of that. So I would guess other than starting current, the average current being drawn will easily be inside your 30A breaker.

Do you think starting current will pop the 30A? I’m not sure. I put a VFD on my 5hp so the ramp parameter prevents large starting currents. I have not done this, but couldn’t a 5hp- rated VFD be used with a 10hp motor, as long as the motor wasn’t loaded heavier than what the VFD’s current limits were set to? The VFD will protect itself, etc.
 
I don't know Bill, You can take shortcuts in some areas but electrical is not an area I am willing to do it on. Insurance companies use that kind of stuff to not pay. Fires are never a good thing and popping breakers is hard on everything too.
 
I hear you, but the job of the breaker is to protect wiring, prevent fires, etc. As long as the breaker is sized appropriately for the wire, I don’t see how there would be any greater risk. But perhaps regulatory folks might see that differently.
