Options for 'DASHER DIES'

Hi

After I long wait, and still waiting, for components) my mind has wondered off to believe that I think I may go the Dasher option. Hey why not!

My question to who ever..... What are my options for dies??
Given that I am in Australia!

I have read that using the chamber reamer to make them is not the best choice??? But what is the big downside and is it enough to not definitely not go this way?

Thanks

This notice was up on the home page "Blog" last week:

REDDING HAS 6mm DASHER DIES
We recently talked to Pat Ryan at Redding Reloading and he told us that they have some Dasher Dies in stock. These are ordinarily a custom-order item, but demand has picked up so they've manufactured some extra inventory. Dies available are: Body die, SN 75648,$63); FL non-bushing die,.265" neck), SN 91648,$90); Std. Seating die, SN 92648,$78); Type S FL Bushing die, SN 77648,$118.50); and Type S Bushing Neck-Sizing die, SN 71648,$118.50). If you want a Micrometer Seater Die, Pat recommended buying a 6BR Comp Seater die, and having your smith ream the inner sliding sleeve with your chamber reamer. The sleeve is soft enough to make this operation easy to do.

The other option is to send a couple fired case to a die-maker like Jim Carstensen or Neil Jones to create a custom FL sizing die. As noted, for the Seater Die, you can ream the inside of a Wilson die, or ream the sleeve in a Redding Die, using the chamber reamer.

Thanks for that!!

I saw that Redding did them and emailed them about what dies they had.

The reply that I got back was that they were in only the basic die set.... how things change!!!

ok

Thanks

eMail back and ask for Pat Ryan. I just talked to him a week ago. They don't have the microm. seater, but they should have Type S neck-sizer and Type S FL sizer, as well as the basic dies. Or so he said. Maybe they ran out after we posted the notice.

Thanks again......

Do you know what dimensions Redding use for the Dasher dies?? I wish to order the reamer.... but just want to make sure everything is right!

Also, my Stolle Panda that is on its way... has a 0.75 firing pin?? Is this right or will I run into problems with primers??? I hope not!!!

With fire forming the Dasher.... and since I am going a 0.268 or so neck.. could I size the neck down, neck unturned) so it would chamber... then put a nice small quantity of powder, filler and a bit of soap to cap to fireform.. Then expand the neck to the right size and neck turn after???

Thanks

Yes you can size down and then fire form.
But you will have to turn the neck afterward.

Good luck

Hi

How do these Redding Type S bushing dies stand up against the competition dies?

At the moment I am looking at getting

1. A FL Type S bushing die or just plan body die....bump the shoulder etc

2. A NK Type S bushing die

3. A standard 6mmbr Redding competition seating die sleeve reamed.

How would you think this option would stand up in competitive shooting?

Can you run the reamer through a standard 6mmbr Competition bushing Neck sizing die to make it usable for the dasher?

If that is the case, my gunsmith can ream both standard 6mmbr seating & neck die's sleeves and the only die that I need to get would be a Redding Dasher Body or FL Type S bushing die for the shoulder bumping! Or get Neil Jones to make the body die??

........OPTIONS............ OPTIONS.............. OPTIONS.......

What are peoples thoughts on this?????

Thanks

HI
Good.
I'm the reason for Dave getting the reamer in the first place.
But I haven't had mine built yet cause to many other projects have got in the way.

I dont know if it is going to be a definite yet... I may go a .268 or .269 neck.... and I am wanting to use the Redding Dasher dies so I am after a reamer which will fit them the best.

If I cant, then I will go the a full Neil Jones set!!

I see he has a 22 Dhaser reamer there too!!!!!

Ok see ya

Any body know the Redding die dimensions for the Dasher set???
