Optimum barrel length for 6 PPC

SteveOak

What is the optimum barrel length for 6 PPC +0.100" cartridge?

105gr class bullet (Yeah, I know, too heavy)
8 twist barrel
Powder of your choice, you tell me
Primer of your choice, you tell me
Lapua 220 Russian brass
NO weight limit, 20+ pound rifle is ok.
Balance of the rifle, not an issue
Average diameter of the barrel is 0.9"

Looking for good velocity and ease of tune.

Anywhere from 20" to 26" would work.

Thanks!

You are basically at a slightly long 6 Grendel or close to a 6 arc. These adoptions may help with your question.

The best place to start is at the beginning. Please take a few minutes to read:

The Secrets of the Houston Warehouse.

Sometimes these links get screwed up due to the number of attempts to straighten out the original article. Simply do a search for the title. This is not necessarily an answer to your question but background information as to how to arrive at an answer as suggested by fellow shooters.

Enjoy the search!

If you are shooting long range bullets, go at least 26 inches. Get all of the velocity you can.

It will amaze you how fast that case will push a bullet. But be warned, you are not going to have a lot of neck to play with, so use a reamer with the correct free bore to match the bullet you will shoot. You want to keep the straight shank away from the neck shoulder junction.

I would call Bart and get some of his. He has about 3 different 6mm bullets in the 103 to 105 grain range.
