Optimal 22LR Barrel Length

I've never liked short barrels on anything, shotguns, rimfire or centerfire. Maybe that's why i don't shoot pistols well. LOL

Greg,
As I've stated in another post, my rifles are mostly vintage and I lean towards the Schuetzen game. I had Ron Smith (RKS) make me a barrel a few years ago requesting that I could get a finish dimension of 30". A couple more figures thrown into this, I also requested it be a left hand twist and an exit twist rate of 1:15.5 (it is a gain twist)- left the weight heavy, around 1.05" at the muzzle, 1.2" at the breech end. I put this on an early winchester low wall that has several of my modifications done to it, like my own breech block, a titanium firing pin (more novelty than function I've discovered), a double hammer spring - both coil and flat, and close coupled set triggers. I shoot and compete with iron sights only - when I sit down and really concentrate, shooting off a bench it will hold 1" groups at 100 yards - offhand like the sport demands - not quite as nice. I am a huge believer in the concept that the longer barrels offer more consistencies all around, but in my case most important - a longer sight radius to work with. I have a considerable amount of data taken for this rifle with a LabRadar, I've attached a small sampling of the results - a few have higher SD's and extremes, but several have much lower with a larger sample.

I posted a comment similar to yours on another forum some years back and it brought forth a considerable amount of disagreement and argument - not worth arguing with those that take a stance based on opinions with minimal facts - so thanks for the video.
Greg
