Optics suggestions?

I am looking at a Savage Model 12LRPV for target shooting only NO HUNTING. Anyways I was wondering what you all recommended for scope/base and rings? I am looking for something that is good quality and will last but not necessarily destroy the bank. Im going to be starting at around 300 yds then going to try to push out to a 1000yds eventually. I was offered a Weaver t-36 but was wondering if it would be too much magnification at 300 yds

So what do you suggest?

Thanks

IT WON'T BE TOO MUCH IN THE RIGHT CONDITIONS BUT SOMETIMES WHEN MIRAGE IS RUNNING HEAVY YOU MAY FAIR MUCH BETTER WITH A VARIBLE POWERED SCOPE. JUST MY OPINION. BILL

Depends on how much 'breaking the bank' is?

At 1000 yds you're gonna need good optics, so it is not really the area you want to skimp on.

I have a Vortex Viper 6.5-20 on my .260 and they are a VERY nice scope for under $500. It has 68moa of adjustment, although I can only get 65 out of mine) so you wont need alot of cant on your base to get to 1000 yds. I have a 10moa cant for mine and still have 44moa of elevation adjustment. You may want more magnification for 1000 yd target work though.

For a bit more you could have a Sightron SIII 6-24 or 8-32. There is a review somewhere on this site, pretty sure it is this site) which does a side by side test against a NF, in which the SIII held its own and costs far less.

We could go on and on, but it depends on what your budget is.

As for mounts, I'd look no further than a Ken Farrell 1 pc base and Burris Signature Zee rings. Warne also makes a nice steel 1pc base.

My $565 Burris Signature Select 6-24x44mm is truly sweet. One gets what one pays for scopewise, yet $1000 dollar plus scopes are not in my immediate future. My Burris gets me on target and I can even read the ring numbers from a hundred yards away. How a scope at twice the price can assist me more, I'll never know. cliffy
