Has anyone in the benchrest community used this company for optics boost or reticle changes

I have had several Unertl and Lyman targetspot scopes boosted and reticle changes. Absolutely supreme work. Have no worries with Cheryl Ackerman's wprl

Cheryl is the daughter of Bill Ackerman, the man who designed the original Weaver T-Model scope. Bill was my MS shooting partner for many years before he passed away. Bill taught her well.
 
Will probably annoy some people but the truth is the truth....

She does good work for a very fair price BUT:

Once you send the scope off, it disappears into a black hole from which you will never know when it will return till it shows up, unannounced one day on your doorstep. No conformation she has it. No estimate on return time. No notification when it ships back.... She almost never answers the phone (COMPLETELY understandable) but also specifically tells you on her voice mail that she doesn't listen to the voice mail so don't leave a message. She almost never return email.

What is the problem with this you ask? Send her a scope, 9 months to a year later when you haven't received it and have finally managed to make contact with her find out it was shipped back to you 3 months ago... it's gone and there is no recourse.

Yes I have had 4 scope reticles changed by her and have been mostly happy with the work (LEUPOLD, OPEN THE DAMN CUSTOM SHOP), one reticle the dot bleeds light and one that is going to the mother ship this week crapped out on a smallbore rifle less then a few hundred shots after she changed the reticle. We'll see if Lupy fixes it or claims foul....

She's pretty much the only game in town, If Leupold doesn't reopen the Custom shop and or start making fixed power scopes again she'll still be pretty much the only game in town still.

Well I called yesterday and she answered the phone.. I asked her a few questions about the cost of a boost and reticle change. I however didn't mention anything about turn around time.
I was just gathering information incase I find a good deal on a 36x scope that I might want boosted...
 
I stand by what I wrote and I will probably use here again if Leupold doesn't go back to making silhouette appropriate scopes... Just trying to give you a for real heads up on what to expect... like I said, I've had 4 scopes done and you asked... ;)

i have had five el paso weavers t scopes redone (blue printed) over the years. also i have sent in several leupolds scopes for a dot change. i have never had any problems getting cheryl on the phone. turn around times were not bad, around 3 to 4 months. don't know what the turn around times are now with the leupold shop closed. the last scope i sent in was last november and i got the scope back in janurary.
 
I can't complain about Cheryl or her process. I think I have sent her 4 or 5 Unertl scopes for reticle changes and a couple of power increases. The work is almost always well done except my last one which the DOT install is too big. Kinda my fault partly on that one though so I have to send it back for a reduction. I don't believe I have ever waited more than 4 months to get a scope back from her so once I send it I don't worry about it. I believe it is just her and her husband doing the repairs and reticle work and with the shortage and wait times of other scope repair places 4 months isn't bad at all. I don't believe she does any major scope repair work like fixing dented bells and stuff, but that may have changed as of late. Cheryl is a good person who is no doubt very busy.

This closely matches my experience with Optical Services Company. I've sent Cheryl six scopes over the years, five of which were Weaver T-16s. I have been happy with the work (new reticles and increases in magnification). Email responses take weeks, not days, and I've never had her answer my phone call, but she did give me a time estimate before I sent her my recent work. Quoted 6 weeks and delivered in 9 weeks after not replying to my email inquiries at 8 weeks. Even considering this, I *would* go to OSC again as I think they are the best available for steel tube Weaver T16s, and I'm partial to that scope.
