Optical Boosters. Any Good??

Was wondering for those of you in the know if an optical booster would be a cost effective way to go to help my fathers failing eyes resolve .22 cal bullet holes at 200 yards.

We were at a local BR match today and he shot excellent at 100 yards. 1st place in factory class using a Savage LRPV in .223 with a Leupold VariX III 8.5-25x50. At 200 yards, things went downhill in a hurry. He said he just couldn't see where he was hitting and had no idea where to adjust. It was a warm sunny day with a bit of mirage, but nothing severe. I could see his shots fine, but he was quite frustrated.

I really don't know much about the boosters except they should bring the targets appearance a whole lot closer, but would I be sacrificing clarity and resolution as the result? What size booster is reccommended? 3x, 3.5x, 4x, 4.5x?? Any an all opinions would be greatly appreciated.

I use a 4x multi coated booster on my Sightron 36x scope. I can usually see 6mm holes at 500 yards unless the mirage is really bad. The 4x should increase the affective power of a scope by 40%, so 25x becomes 35x. That is still marginal for 22 holes for a person with vision problems, but doable.
Hope this helps,
Jack

It was explained to me that someone using a 4x booster on a 25x scope would now have 100x. This is not the case then????
Either way a 40% increase would be better than nothing.

How did the booster affect clarity and resolution. Did it make things more blurry or obscured at 500 yards.....or just that much better?

Hi Banks,
You get 40% increase from the 4x, 30% from the 3x booster.
For my eyes, I can see bullet holes much better with the booster.
It makes the mirage waves much clearer, but seems to make the target not 'dance' in the mirage. I am very impressed with it.
I also have the 3x non-coated booster. It is only good for close range BR.

I bought one,slip-on type) after reading so many rave reviews on them. It will not allow me to focus the reticle with any of my scopes,NF BR, LEUP LRT, Weaver T-36's). Same thing reported by FIVE other shooter I know that invested in them as well.

pieces of crap as far as I'm concerned

Hi,
same problem ! Works only with the Zeiss Conquest scopes for me. Works best for older people wearing correctur classes !

Works fine for me on an of my Premier Boosted Leupolds without GLASSES or with them. I know of 2 World Records in F-Class that have been shot with them.

I suggest you contact Bulz Eye Pro yourself, they do have a Money Back warranty if not happy, Gene and Bill are good people.

My neighbor has a 2.5x multi coat booster that he will let go for $140 shipped. It fits a Weaver.
