optical booster or new scope?

I have a leupold vxiii 6.5-20x50 with 30mm tube and Tactical milling reticle. I woyld like a little more power. well as much as I can get. I like the specs and reviews on the sighgron siii 10-50 but its a lot of money. is it worth getting an optical booster or would I be better of getting a completely new scope? also do the optical boosters just add like say if its a 20 power Max would it just become 23 if its a 3x booster? how would it effect the Tactical milling reticle. I would have to relearn the mill sizing.

[1] Yes - it will affect the reticle.
[2] The Sightron is fine scope (esp. the SIII series) - so the 10-50x is worth it.
[3] No... it's not additive. It is also not a multiplier either (or not at least a factor of 3). The company is inda vague on the actual boost, but the wider the existing zoom range, the less it multiplies that. I would guess somewhere around 28-32x final.
[4] The bososters do degade the optic - particularly in the outter fringes of the FOV.
[5] The boosters also significantly reduce the eye relief - not good if your rifle is not light on recoil or you cannot adjust to the new relief.

My opinion... sell the Leupy, and buy a new scope that suits your needs.

Your scope should end up 8.45-26 w/ the 3x booster.

When Gene Davis first brought out the boosters (now called Bulzeye), I bought a 3x. Tried it on a Weaver 36x and Leupold 36x. After the proper adjustments, the image was great out to 200 yds; beyond that it was very distorted. Sent it back for a refund.

Get the best scope you can buy.

If it is of any value to you, the 8-32 Sightron is a really good optic, and quite a bit less than the 10-50. I got mine used from a member for ~$675.
