Optic for Model 94 Winchester 30-30?

Bought a Picatinny type, top mount for my old Model 94 (top eject). Need suggestions for an optic? Red dot, holographic, crosshairs? Just going to use it for ~100 yards or less.....brush hunting for deer or bear. Would like lowest profile possible for good cheek weld, etc. Thanks

how and where are you going to mount the base on a top break 94 ? in the old days it was a side mount on the left side of the receiver. you had to drill and tap the side of the receiver, i'm 75 and still use iron sights w/ my glasses.

This is a pre64 that my Dad gave to me when I was 10 or 11 years old...I'm almost 63 now.... no drilling and tapping gonna happen to this baby. I bought a Pearson mount.....uses the front sight dovetail and one of the side screw holes to mount just forward of the top eject. Haven't put it on yet. I could probably get by with iron sights, but since this goes on without any modifications, I thought that I'd give it a try.

open face red dot of some kind...no need to align head, just get dot "on" and whack away

I still have my original 1956 94 . one owner low miles. never saw the base you have , but have tried a red dot on my ar 15 . vortex strikefire . nice unit, but I don't like a red dot . took it off and looking for a scope. what you need is a scope with generous eye relief

I have used a 3x Burris long eye relief pistol scope in a similar installation and found it satisfactory.

Thanks Dave.........was thinking of the Fastfire 3, or Docter sight. Also glad to know that I don't need the front screw for the Pearson mount.

take a look at the burris TRS-25. small and compact but very durable. also, a fixed 4x or 6X scope would work nicely, not sure of the mount you're refering to but a scout type scope may be somthing to consider along with a pistol scope mentioned earlier if long eye relief is needed.....E
