Opinions what Reticle for S&B PM II

Depends on what you are doing with it. If long range target shooting only I would go with the sport or sport fine reticle. (Kind of similar to NF NP-2DD) For all around shooting and general purpose go with the P4 Fine, which I was told is their most popular reticle. P4 Fine same as P4 but finer on the reticle and will provide more precision and not cover up smaller targets. My S&B is the P4 Fine and is second focal plane. I love it for the glass, but some of my friends have remarked it may be too "busy" for them. Good luck with your choice.

Thanks Frank for your reply. I was thinking the P4 Fine and second focal plane, Guys like zak smith are using ffp. And he said at 1500 yards the FFP reticle almost totally obscures the target. …

1500 would be top end for me anyway, using 300 win mag. I don’t like the idea of the reticle obscuring the target at longer ranges…. Is yours a 4-16 or 5-25.

At what power dose the reticle or milling work … full power?

Have you shot it over 500 yards on small varmint or at 600+ on larger game or steel target what was the reticle like at those yardage.

Mine is the 5-25 PMII, you range with it at full power or 25 power. The milling arrangement is pretty accurate. I have only shot mine at a max 600 yards so far on my .300 RUM and only to shoot paper with. If you are contemplating a S&B there was a 5-25 here in the classifieds for sale or trade by a member only a few days ago. Or have you thought about the big 12-50 PMII?

Frank

I have thought about 12-50 PMII, it would be an awesome scope…I though it might be a bit of over kill, and the field of view would be pretty small at 50 power, target acquisition would be even more difficult than 5-25 maybe after I get this one I will look at that one. thanks Frank

Just placed the order for a S&B PM II 5-25x56 im excited now. I have wanted one of these since i watched bench rest shooters, using them in the 1980, back when i first started shooting.

Kym, where did you order yours from? Just curious. You will enjoy it, they are in the top 3 of the scope chain IMO if not at the top.
