Opinions on Zeiss conquest HD

I have acquired a Zeiss 5-25X50 HD with lockable turrets. I am planning on mounting this scope on a very heavy recoiling rifle. A fried of mine had problem with this scope on a similar rifle. He had 2 of them to fail and knew of other people who had problems as well. I would like to here from some off you folks who might own one the scopes.

i have 3 zeiss scopes never had a issue with them in my opinon they are a great scope for thier price range

I have the HD5 5x25x50 scope. I've never done any turret tracking tests on mine but they seem to be on target out to 600 yards, as thats all the further i have shot at with that scope. The only problem i have with it is when I'm hunting in 20 degree weather or colder, the magnification adjustment is very very hard to turn. I called zeiss about this problem and they said no one has ever complained about that issue to them. And told me to send in the scope and they would fix it. I think they are a good scope for the money. But i think there are better options for that price range. But being you have the scope already, just enjoy it

Great optics and a clever adjustment system - lockable turrets - but my scope had a Rapid Z 1000 reticle designed for the .308 Win using 168 grain loads and that was not what I wanted. I would have kept it if Zeiss could have retro fitted a common Z-plex reticle but they would not.

I have an older model (6.5-20) on a 10lb 7mm STW with no brake. It kicks moderately hard. The scope has been reliable for years, tracks as good as my NF and is very clear. I have the varmit reticle and it is perfect for that rifle.

Yeah my magnification rings turn hard in cold weather as well. On both 5-25 HD5s. Not a huge deal because it still worked, but was a little annoying with how much harder it got when below freezing temps

What are caliber are you calling "heavy recoiling"? Will it have a brake?

I had a 5-25 HD5 on a 338-375 Ruger with NO muzzle brake. 250gr Berger VLD @ 2950 fps. That is faster than 338 Lapua factory 250gr ammo. Kicks as hard as any man wants to deal with. Never had any issues with the scope. Sold it because I am making the rifle lighter with a carbon fiber stock and smaller scope so I can pack it in the mountains easier, but will have to put a muzzle brake on because I'm losing too much weight for that kind of recoil.

I have another 5-25 HD5 on a heavy 6.5 Remington Magnum. Not heavy recoil, but no issues with it either. Good glass and good in low light.

1500 rnds on 300 win mag loaded to the nuts, no problem but it's made for 308 trajectory. Very clear glass, but reticle is just to busy for target shooting.

I've watched this broil up, you guys should agree to disagree! One is talking apple one is talking of the shooting world! Rarely is it this clear cut! A$1000 scope compared to a 5-25x50 NF that will run up toward $2500 we are not on the same ball field anymore are we! It's closer in price to a Nikon really! Stop bickering like girls, you see it from diffferent firearms point of view!

Where does it mention anything but the Zeiss 5-25x50? Only mention of NF is a brief comment on tracking on a positive note.

Maybe I took it wrong, that is how it seemed to me. Tonight I realize I've brought up a long dead post which I don't even know how how I got on in the first place! My apologies for rehashing dead mail!
