Opinions on Optics

I am looking to throw some optics on a DPMS SASS. I will be shooting long distance with it (up to 1000 yds)

Was wondering what optics everyone prefers based on mechanical precision, money value, and overall likes and dislikes. I am looking at a Vortex HS-T. If you know anything about this scope, let me know please.

Thank you

What power is it and what does it cost. In my opinion the sightron 8-32x56 is a wonderful scope for the money. Just don't get the mil dot reticle,it is way to coarse. Or the 10-50x56 which isn't to more expensive than the 8-32x56mm for what you get. I have heard nothing bad about the vortex high end scopes such as the one you may be choosing.

Here is a review of scopes that seemd very objective and you might find helpful.

I love my Nighforce ATACR but also shoot with a lot of guys who love their Vortex scopes.

I'll second that 8-32x56 Sightron S-III with the LRMOA reticle . I have one on a custom 300RUM and it works perfectly.

Whats your budget?

$200 bushnell 10x
$250 SWFA SS 10, 16, or 20x
from there I'd save up for
$800 Sightron SIII 6-24 or 8-32 w/ LRMOA (unless you want mil)
$1400 used NF NXS 5.5-22 or 8-32
$2500 S&B, USO, Premier, Kahles, - take your pick

This is the scope I've been looking at. 6-24 variable zoom for $730.. do not want illuminated reticle. Trying to keep it under $1000. I'll definitely look more into the Sightron that has been mentioned and reinforced.

If the SIII is too much $, Doug has demo (usually brand new) Vortex PST 6-24x50s for $629 shipped.

Brownells just shipped me a Sightron SIII 8-32x56 with the 1/8 MOA target knobs and the target dot reticle. I'm gonna mount it on my .338 Lapua. We'll see how tough they are. ;-)
