Opinions on OAL

Guys, need some opinions. I changed my OAL by .005 into the lands
from just touching the lands on my 6 X 47 Shehane using Berger 105's in search of tightening my groups. Well, my groups opened up. I know these Bergers can be stubborn at times and I need some advice. Would you go into the lands more ,another .005) or back off .005 from touching the lands? Or would you try both? Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions. Bill

Bill,
I would try them .015" off the lands and .015" into the lands. Chances are that one of these settings will be distinctly better than the other, in my experience one will give you more vertical stringing.

Once you've determined the good one start tweaking in or out from there.

I sent you an e-mail Man. Thanks, Bill

It's a surefire thing to figure out Bill ... load 3 rounds each at -.010, -.005, even, +.005, +.010, +.015. The 3-shot groups will clearly show you what the barrel wants.

Thanks for the reply man. Yea, I took it to the range today and it really likes the .010 into the lands. 100 yd. 5 shot group measued .157 after caliber deduction. .015 opened up to .500 and both .010 and .015 from the lands were app. .500 and vertical. I just hope this will work well at the 500 and 600 yd. mark. Bill

No reason it won't work at longer distances. According to Allie Euber, to get a good group at 100 means the bullet 'went to sleep' early and should, therefore, be good at any range. Enjoy!
