Opinions on LE Wilson vs Forster Ultra Seaters

GT Accuracy

Site $$ Sponsor
just looking for a few opinions on the seaters / dies mentioned in the title. I had a friend ask about the new forster ultra seaters and if they are comparable or better than the LE Wilson.

since i am a hand die guy i didn't want to give him an answer as my opinion might be biased.

Thanks guys

Greg

I have had both. I turned my Forster into a pointer. I only use Wilsons to seat. So I guess that makes me biased too.

Forster & Wilson make really great stuff, I don't think you can go wrong with either one. I have both, I use my Wilson almost exclusively now, they're excellent! Just one opinion

I think it just depends on whether he wants to use a bench mounted press for everything, or use the Wilson seater with an arbor press for bullet seating. My reloading practice has morphed into a pretty well matched FL (usually bushing type) sizer die that I keep die shims & a dedicated shell holder with for proper sizing/bump back, then I use a Wilson seater & arbor press to seat bullets. One advantage of the Wilson seater/arbor press is that you can take brass, either primed or not, to the range & work up loads there much easier than using a bench mounted press rig. When I start load development, I usually take primed brass, a powder I want to work with, powder measure pre-set for starting load, wilson seater & press, and bullets. I can then easily load at the range to quickly find max loads, most accurate powder charges, then work on seating depth - all with fairly light weight, easy to manage tools.

Since you are already using wilson seaters, why don't you let your friend try that method vs using a bench mounted press, then he should be able to easily make a decision about which method he wants to use. You can get great shooting ammo either way.

Another Wilson bullet seater guy here. I've gone back to Wilson dies for everything I can get them for. Runout is just less with Wilson than anything else I can find.

I hate to admit this, but I use a Forster or Redding most of the time to seat my bullets, mainly practice days.

On match day, I seat my bullets with my Wilson seater :-[

Both are great dies. It seems that extra .001 or 2 (concentricity) I want seating a bullet happens with the Wilson.
