Opinions needed on primers

Gentlemen,
I can no longer find Federal 210 primers locally. I can order them from Midway, who has them in stock, but that means a Haz Mat fee plus shipping. I can get Winchester large rifle primers and CCI large rifle primers pretty readily from 2 locations. Who likes what and why?

Thanks,

Scott

I've been using CCI LR primers for 22-250, .308, .270, 30-06, and 6.5 X 284 for years with IMR 4895, RL-15, IMR 4350, H4350, H4831 and RL-22 (in the 6.5). Keep in mind you may have to adjust your load a little as a primer switch can change pressure and velocity both up or down.

Hey Cajun...if you live in cajunville...Louisiana Gun and Reloading in Baton Rouge had plenty 2 weeks ago and it sounded like they were only having problems getting the match primers as expected. I picked up some F210's and S&B LR for a test in a 6.5 Creedmoor with H4350/141gr projectiles. BTW the S&B's were only 25fps slower than the Feds, 20 slower than the BR-2's and the ES was less than half with a SD of 4. This primer was better than BR-2's or F210's....go figure!

Thanks for the info. I may have to make a trip over there this weekend and check it out.

Rust thanks for your reply.

Winchester primers seem to work good in my 220 swift 22250 and 308
Only if you're not pushing things too hard. Seen plenty of blown Winchester primers and the damage it does to bolt faces when loads are well stoked.
Not at all pretty.

Well dont load hot!!
I don't and use Winchester primer in some loads. AFAIK there are no problems with Win SR primers just the large rifle primers. You may not like the fact there's a problem with LR Win primers but there is, spend some time Google'ing and even on this forum there's plenty of examples.

Im not going to argue with you over stupid stuff someone ask the ? So i answered it that i have NO problem with winchester primers but obviously ive been corrected! Thanks for your advise!

CCI because they are reliable and consistent. Winchester is the opposite and is better suited for hunting loads. The CCI is more the Cadillac and the other a Yugo. Both will get you there, but quite a difference in the ride.

Do yourself a favor and do a search for Winchester primer problems... It's bad.

Twice in about the last 4-5 years they had a run of bad cup. They will crack allowing the hot gas to burn the boltface. Myself and two buddies bought them at the same time together and we all three had the same issue. Since then there was another run of Winchester primers like the previous ones. We all have not used them since the first time. If its happened twice in five years, it will happen again.

edit: These are WLR primers, the WSR I have never had or heard nor read about them doing the same.

Already did that problem was 2012 time frame its 2016 get over it!!
Did you read the post above yours?

It's a track record bud, which separates them from other manufacturer who were more careful. If you don't care using primers that burn the bolt face of your rifle, you can indeed continue to use them.

It all depends on what you are loading to do ; IE, 600 yd. at Donaldsonville , or anything within 100 yds.
Baddog,
Right now it's 100 yards. i hope to get to shoot 600 yard at Donaldsonville one day. For now, I'll just kepp trying to put 5 bullets in the same hole at 100.. considering they're all about the same price, i see no reason not to buy the best I can get my hands on.

I've read and heard about the Winchester problems. That's one of the reasons I started this post.
